    Oh Jeremy Corbyn

Effectively yes. And Marr didn't call him out on it enough. As I wrote above, the definition of government debt is effectively issuing bonds.

    Oh Jeremy Corbyn

The key here Grendel, is by how much debt costs would increase and how much growth would increase to make it worth it. I believe it would be a disaster but I don't know. To counter my own argument: Labour will borrow a lot of money initially and gilt yields will increase. The country will...

    Driverless cars by 2021

The real problem here is going to be the massive increase in carless drivers. The precinct will be crowded with middle-aged men making engine noises, barging through and shouting at other pedestrians. There will be teenage kids stealing other people's shoes and then leaving them burnt out in...

    Oh Jeremy Corbyn

Clint, I think it depends on one's views re scrutiny. When I watch the BBC it always feels like Labour is given an easy ride and the government lambasted. However, I have now listened to McDonnell and have some points on what he says. I'll be completely open and disclose that I know a lot...

    Oh Jeremy Corbyn

Well it all depends on your views on how successful Labour would be if they gained power. I believe it would be an unmitigated disaster. And then I see a weak government; a weak PM and Labour winning in the opinion polls. I'd go as far as to say that this is one of the issues most prevalent...

BTW, mentioned Salinger because I read all his published novels around that age and loved them. Also read the Gormenghast trilogy and lots of Kafka; Camus; Orwell & Graham Greene about that age (being honest I was about 17 - so possibly a little older). It's all about teenage angst then right?

    Books

Wow, I love both of the other two books you mention. Confederacy of Dunces had me laughing out loud. Read On the Road about 30 years ago and remember enjoying it. But I know what you mean about wanting to complete a book you are not enjoying but sometimes giving in anyway. I've tried Conrad...

    Oh Jeremy Corbyn

This explains what I have been reading on social media politics discussions. So many people writing that the Tories want to increase debt because they get the money from their friends the Rothschilds... So many people who respond that I'm naive when I explain to them how the country really...

    Books

I have never read one either, but I bought a book of collected stories a year or so ago when a friend recommended them to me. I'd always wrongly assumed that it wouldn't be well written. I'm always tempted by these big books of collected novels but then I never get around to reading them...

    Books

Long time since I read it. It's about a guy born at midnight on the day of partition between India and Pakistan. I remember that as a result he has an incredible sense of smell. Cannot recall much more just now but if you look on Amazon there will be loads of reviews.

    Two men kissing

I was exposed to a lot of gay people when I left home at 18. I remember being disturbed when I first saw two blokes kissing but I guess it just became normal.

    Books

I haven't read the Satanic Verses - but I'd recommend Midnight's Children, which is right up there amongst the best novels I've read. I also think it influenced Zadie Smith heavily on White Teeth. I've a huge pile of books to read as I buy what I want when I see it in a charity shop etc...
