His shooting is crap. Has he ever scored a non-deflected goal for us?

xThreat is probably similar to what you’re suggesting but I think it’s too limited to be useful. I suspect in the coming years AI may be able to get closer to what you want. But it’s never going to be anything like as good as stockfish is, for the reasons I mentioned.

You seriously don’t understand why it is impossible to mathematically analyse a football match in the same manner as a turn based board game? Lmao There is very finite set of possible moves each turn in a game of chess. Football doesn’t even have turns. Honestly this is one of the weirdest...

??? Chess has a finite number of moves/states. Football is infinite.

Obviously no single number is going to be able to accurately capture how a team performed over a whole game of football. But it is certainly very useful. I’d be interested why you think it isn’t.

Xg is just a quantitative measure of chances created, which is the main factor people use to discuss a teams performance anyway.

It’s not all about goals. His all round game on Tuesday was very good. Wright doesn’t score the second without him pressuring the defender. Long term I think Simms and Bassette have more potential, but I’d stick with BTA for now.

I agree, pretty sure he’ll stick with it anyway. Also from what I’ve seen so far I don’t want BTA playing on the right.

But the team he picked v spurs was slightly rotated. He was angry with himself because he knew it wasn’t his best side, but got carried away off the back of one good performance. The team he picked on Tuesday was what he felt his best side would be, he’ll pick it again.

    Blackburn Player Ratings

The pass is if anything slightly behind him and he’s got two men on him. Eustace would’ve been fuming watching that goal. There’s absolutely no way BTA should’ve scored there, terrible defending from the two near him and a keeper howler. I’m just saying it’s not like EMC laid it on a plate for...

Not sure why people want Simms back in immediately and I don’t see Robins doing it after describing BTA on Tuesday as “the best centre forward performance for the club for some time”. I think he’ll probably go the same team with EMC for Saka. Probably needs to make subs earlier than Tuesday though.

For me BTA had an excellent game last night. I also suspect that we will get much more consistent performances out of him than Simms - BTA is always willing to do the running and gets himself involved, bringing others into play whereas Simms does struggle to impact games at all sometimes. BTA...
