Almost zero fees are paid in one go anymore. I believe Newcastle used to pay all/most up front in exchange for a reduced overall price but even that's changed since Ashley left & it's not like they're short of funds.

Said this before but I think there's a lot of recall bias around Schmeichel based on how good he's proved to be since. He was generally poor with us & absolutely woeful in that Charlton game that nearly got us relegated.
