Through to the semi-finals of the U21 Euros. First half v Portugal was a breeze, second half a real test. Some decent players at that level, and just shows the depth we have. Angel Gomes is a tidy player.
Ha. It’s so basic. They couldn’t run between the wickets. By half-tracking it they could play baseball and it brought boundaries into play. Absolutely no chance Lyon would have had the footwork to deal with fuller balls.
That last wicket partnership I’d have bowled full and straight every ball. Can’t make a run and it’s undoubtedly harder to score a boundary than the short stuff. It was almost risk-free. Instead we’ve conceded 10 runs because we can’t dynamically alter the game plan.
Shouldn’t necessarily be aiming to spend more. If the right targets are available at lower prices we should be looking to get them done. Ethan Laird is prime example in my opinion, great signing for sub-£1m.
