MR stays loyal almost always. So same team, even if it means 2 holding midfielders and Haynes with no decent cover as McNulty has no notion how you do that if Crawley's goal on Saturday is typical. I think I would prefer Shipley to Kelly, but it is a marginal call. Slightly concerned that having...

    Playoffs

I am suggesting 8 points - 2 wins 2 draws (inc Lincoln in the latter). So yes you are right 9 points will do it, as it will be > Mansfield and Lincoln, but that is not what I said

    Playoffs

The last look I had at the respective fixture list, I thought we would get 8 more points and be in a 3 way tie with Mansfield and Lincoln. We have at the moment an inferior goal difference to both and Mansfield at least have a very easy run in. I fear the worst. As has been noted elsewhere a...

Preferred Bayliss at Crewe, but it's a subjective opinion

    Support for Burge

In terms of the inferior quality in League 2, goalkeepers is an area where it seems to show. You see an awful lot of goals that would not happen in League 1. Vincenti against Grimsby is a good example. Really obvious move, not that far from the goal. I haven't seen enough, but have a hunch that...

    Just needs some perspective

We thumped Millwall 4-0 away 2 seasons ago - a great day out. They are now on the edge of the Prem, and we are..... It is one bad result. Doyle possibly culpable in not getting their heads back in focus once they were 2 down

    The most overly disliked players

Around the time he was laying it on for Nouble to score against Gillingham there was fear on here - I kid you not - that Haynes would be poached by a Championship club. I know, I know.... Every time I have seen him you could draw a 10 yard radius circle around the attacking flanker at almost any...

    Biamou

Although I thought Newport was a good goal given the conditions, speed he was running and pressure he was under, had he missed it would probably have been described as a sitter for a pro footballer. Can something be a good goal and a sitter at the same time?

    Biamou

More to the point in Yeovil 2 and Swindon, wasn't it the case that he won the knock down, landed running and came on to the layback at speed in both cases?

You misread. Newport very good finish, Yeovil one tap in for a pro Yeovil two star strike

    Biamou

Two good finishes out of three - one was a tap in - is very good going at this level. Notice the similarity in two of his goals this season - Yeovil and Swindon (I think), and not just the quality of the strike

When he switched Bayliss into the middle, the team sheet caught this place by surprise. It was not expected he would drop Kelly, whom he has been very loyal to. That game - whether it was Bayliss or not - was the catalyst. One up for Robbins for uncharacteristic ambition

Agree about BIamou - noting that he is a professional footballer and should be able to do it on almost every occasion - he was running in at speed, on a tricky surface with a lot at stake., and took the high risk option of a half volley

Makes it harder - one fewer games to overhaul Wycombe. Need them to slump, and they may yet might do that, they weren't very good yesterday either it seems

Newport's recent form ropey - they have slipped back. I had it as a draw as well, but the most winnable one, and I suspect we need 6-2 for the autos, not my 5-3.. The killer, Oti's insistence notwithstanding, was Notts County's failure to beat Wycombe. We now have 7 rather than 8 games to close...

I venture it was not a "good point". Admittedly, It was one of my draws in a 5-3 split for the last 8 games, but was the one I thought we had most chance of winning. The crucial gap with Wycombe - the thing that really matters most - remains 6 points as they drew when we need them to lose. The...

Can you have a defensive mid fielder who by common consent does not tackle?

Match Thread Coventry City at Newport County Match Thread - Friday 30th Mar

Personally (as stated before) our main thing is that Wycombe drop points, as they are the only team excluding Stanley & luton of course) who are out of reach right now. Notts have a tough run in so even if they win, they are likely to drop. A Lincoln win would be handy

every game is must win. If we do Crewe we can do Newport. Chances may be few, so McNumpty has to be on form. Brain 1-1, heart 0-2 to us
