I always saw the cracks of madness there, and getting wider as the seasons progressed. Finding she was no longer the rightful heir to the throne, something she thought she was born for, and destined for all her life suddenly opened that thin line into a chasm, and moved her right over the edge...

No, that's true, but I always saw that as Cersei's "i'll burn them all" moment, so Dany had no city or people at the end of it, rather than to try to defeat them.

You didn't see it exploding? I've only watched on an ipad so far, but saw plumes of green smoke.

There have been signs throughout the seasons that she has been on the edge. To want to watch her brother die as he had been cruel to her, and so many others she has killed, even the wights in mass slaughter. It's been building up all the way through for her to be "that" woman. The last 2 seasons...

When you do come back to this, if a fan theory spoils it for you, then you having read the books must have killed seasons 1-5 for you... :-)
