Just putting aside the moral argument for a moment, can we consider how big a product Wasps are offering. Currently two "franchise clubs", London Welsh and London Irish, at Oxford and Reading respectively, get what we would consider as appalling crowds for their home league fixtures 3,000 for...

Mick Quinn: Deal with WASPS includes deal for CCFC to remain at Ricoh

I'm with you on this mate - what I'd like to do is roll back the clock to where we were back at the Ricoh and ACL and SISU were (hopefully) going to start talking about what it would take to have the club buy into the stadium. I can't believe that it's gone so wrong, so fast! For a lot of...

Mick Quinn: Deal with WASPS includes deal for CCFC to remain at Ricoh

Absolutely Otis - but if this takeover of ACL goes ahead and SISU's option of buying into ACL is gone forever, then moving to a new, crappier ground might well be the only game in town. At that point it's down to SISU whether we stay at the Ricoh whilst the new ground is built. And even if...

Mick Quinn: Deal with WASPS includes deal for CCFC to remain at Ricoh

That would be a long term agreement without the agreement of the current owners then, I guess. Because unless SISU have suddenly changed their tune they've always said that they're not going to stay as just tenants. It might suit Wasps and CCC for the club to stay, but whether it suits SISU is...

Wasps officials have held talks about making Ricoh permanent home

At least one article I've read says that Wasps are obliged to maintain their academy and training facilities in London in order to be able to pretend that they are not moving from their county of origin. (Partial article here...)...

Mick Quinn: Deal with WASPS includes deal for CCFC to remain at Ricoh

You don't need a good source for this - CCFC have a contract to play at the Ricoh for the next two years at least. What happens after that though, that's down to the owners of the club and whoever controls ACL. No guarantees at all as to whether either of those parties might decide it would...

    Trust Email I Just Got!

Man, I've been standing on the hill blowing a whistle for the last three home fixtures. I wondered why it was so quiet - why didn't anyone tell me. ;)

    Protest Tuesday

Option 4, Chief - they don't think it's worth what Wasps are paying for it, and perhaps hope to slide in afterwards and pick up the pieces? If you look at London Welsh, and how their franchise to Oxford seems to be playing out (rock bottom of the division, attendances around 3,000) that might...

city still play at ricoh regardless of wasps takeover

A story from 2009? Exactly how could we have shown concern about that here unless we had a time machine?! So we've shot down that argument. As for the value of the Arena - that's a complete red herring, we're talking about ACL here and we're told that's a sustainable and profitable business...

city still play at ricoh regardless of wasps takeover

No one needed to show that they were worried about the future of Cov RFC before, because it wasn't under threat. What's worse in my book is someone pretending to care about them, or to claim to stand against franchising in general, when actually they're not really fussed as long as it doesn't...

    Protest Tuesday

What depresses me is how many people will go along with it, because there's a slight possiblity that it might suit CCFC, or perhaps more accurately not suit SISU. To mix a metaphor, people have grasped onto that straw and thrown their morals out of the window. If the council vote for this they...

    sisu on the ropes

You could be right, but there's an awful lot of supposition here, and very little actual evidence. Even if bringing in a franchise club did herald the end of SISU, it still would be wrong in my opinion. The key is in the word 'franchise'. As for Rob and Les working for SISU, that's a cheap...

    Protest Tuesday

I think we're currently in a 2+2 deal Otis - so SISU or Wasps could move the club out of the Ricoh again at the end of next season I think. My point here remains; if we're not willing to stand against Wasps being moved now, we'll hardly have grounds for complaint if SISU decide to take us away...

    So Much for Ricoh Return

In fairness to the club, I think they are getting the message to some degree - all the bitching about the "lost 20,000" comes from a segment of the fans. What worries me, is that it feels we're trying to run everything on a shoestring - the squad, the club shop, and the operational back-office...

I'm sorry, but I'm not sure you've really thought through how that works for Coventry RFC. They don't seem to keen on it at the moment, and as a fan of CRFC I'd like to imagine that one day they could push for the top flight (hard as that is), rather than just be a feeder club to a franchise...

Last post of the night, but again I'd disagree. The council have a duty to behave properly and fairly as well as doing the best deal possible for the city. As a citizen of Coventry, to me it is unacceptable to see the city associated with a franchise team - something that many members of the...

I disagree. We vote for the Council, and without them voting it through it doesn't happen. So we certainly do have a say in the matter. Whether they'll listen is a different thing, but if we sit still and say nothing we can hardly blame them for thinking we don't care.

Politely again, this misses the point for me. Even if it was a brilliant move for everyone involved except the Wasps fans, it would still be wrong. Franchising teams away from their fanbase is simply wrong. How did you feel when it happened to us, and how would you feel if it happened again?

To be honest, it's always nice to be liked, but if I even was the only person in the world who saw what's going on as wrong, then I'd still have to say something. In fact, now I thnk about it, I sometimes think I am the only person in the world who values my opinion. I'm certainly the only...
