The bad news about future FIFA football tournaments

Focusing on the girls is sexist and probably can't justify its place on a sport broadcast, but on the other hand there were plenty of shots of Gianni Infantino so there was something for the ladies too. Equality established, let's crack on as we were

    The World Cup Thread

That came completely from self-deprecation, it started when we were about to kick off a World Cup with Gareth Southgate as manager and so clearly we had no chance. Anyone seeing that and taking it at face value was really missing the point, it was always a form of gallows humour

    Unpatriotic English People

I do miss Scotland being at tournaments, having nearly everyone there at the last Euros made it a lot more interesting. With the World Cup going to 48 teams in 2026 they've really got no excuse to not have reached one by then at the latest.

    The World Cup Thread

I'd be pleasantly surprised if there as many as three goals in the final, it's been a while since a proper two-sided goalfest. Modric was a joy to watch from the second half onwards last night, even if he looks like a witch and then moaned about the media saying that a team falling over with...

    Unpatriotic English People

Going by the Irish eligibility as a guide, I'd qualify for a Scottish passport so if they ever did go independent and were part of the EU I'd apply. Can't give up that free data roaming on holiday now.

    Unpatriotic English People

There's not much in the way of actual hate for the English as a whole, they do like to see our national team fail though as it's the only involvement they get in tournament football.

    Sharp Objects

We watched the first episode and really liked it, feels like a proper slow burner. Pick up little elements of other shows in there too, The Sinner with the flashbacks and Bloodline for the mad sweatiness everywhere.

    The World Cup Thread

Croatia have a wealth of experience and know how to both chase a game down and close one out, we don't yet. Colombia were quarter-finalists last time and tipped as dark horses, Sweden saw their way past Holland, Italy and Germany to get as far as they did. It wasn't as daunting as facing Brazil...

At the One Love Manchester concert in tribute to the victims of the bombing, Ariana Grande managed to sneak in her song about being too sore to walk after sex.

Nooit opgeven altijd doorgan, Aangenaam door vermaak en nuttig door ontspanning

At the quarter-final stage of the tournament, there were more players in the eight squads who have appeared for Sunderland than either Real Madrid or Juventus.
