    The good old days.....

It has always been business. Since Alf Common became the first player to be sold for over 1,000 pounds in 1905. Maybe even earlier. It is just that the level of business acumen has improved from the amateurish past. Foreign owners have generally been a plus - more professional. Since the game...

    Transfer Rumour January transfer window

We have two left backs but no hard bitten CDM and flabby centre halves. And it's being suggested we get another left back? Have we not learned from having two left wingers. Priority is defensive midfield and centre back. Left back can wait until summer

That was one of my favourite games of the Robins era - the yellow & blue kit, 3-1 down and down to nine, the Kastaneer slide, Rose's goal. A unbelievable game

Man City shows just how quickly it can all fall apart... Robins must be empathizing with Pepe right now

    Confirmed : Lampard Head Coach

Well it might be that the speed was glacial before and has at least moved up a couple of notches, but the endless dithering has largely gone. We fans underate just how good footballers are at controlling the ball under pressure with the chest in particular and then finding a player in the same...

oh and Basette out on loan if at all possible if Wright comes back before the end of January. He needs to learn at a lower level

    Transfer Rumour January transfer window

Agreed. As a generality, volume of business in January is often minimal and what there is often panicky and ill advised. We have two urgent needs in defence in the manner of a Hamer and a McFadzean respectively. The latter could be a loan of an experienced old pro like John Egan from whom our...

    Transfer Rumour January transfer window

We desperately need a crunchy defensive midfielder who is also a leader, sitting in front of the back four. But who would he replace in our best 1st IX? Rudoni is a creative player with goals and assists; Lampard has clearly improved Torp already (good game yesterday, pen not withstanding)...

    Confirmed : Lampard Head Coach

Not a fan of celebrity appointments so Frank would not have been my choice, but the positives so far have been 1. Tempo: Quicker from the goalkeeper, throw ins and such like . Robins was always quite irritatingly deliberate. 2. Robins' tactical flexibility was an asset - Leeds away and Wolves...

Lampard has got them playing noticeably quicker which I have been desperate to see. Throw in's, goalkeeper clearances.

Agreed. Trouble is for all the excellent play in attack we only have one defender who is any good MVE

Their marking was shockingly bad. The number of free passes we had to an unmarked player on the flank was unbelievable for this level

Our defence again let in a soft goal. The central defence were clearly culpable - so it should be "solid and decent - except for when they let in a goal"

Apart from one off his wrong foot Collins' distribution was again excellent. Two good saves the second of which was seriously good, Really good performance Bassette as it stands is barely League one level. All energy, no precision, no finish. Headless chicken. A lack of a cool head is what is...

Match Thread West Bromwich Albion - Coventry City Match Thread - Wednesday 11th Dec

Dovin is the best stopper -the core requirement after all. Collins has the best and particularly the quickest distribution. As speed of transfer from defence to attack is tactically is where we have deteriorated most since the play off season this not to be dismissed lightly.
