    Southampton pubs

I'll be having a beer in the Harbour Hotel, about 10 mins walk from St Mary's. Has a great bar on the top floor with great views.

Now that Ismael has been sacked at WBA, I wonder if they'd consider MR as a replacement? If they would, that'll be a sign of the clubs ambitions - would MR stay if approached by WBA and if so, what would the club do to keep him?

Regardless of what they spent on the club beforehand, the 11 players who were the mainstay of their squad, we're brought in for £28m (just double checked) when some of the clubs who they were up against, had spent 5-10 times that amount.

Well of course - any team would be better off with more money. My point being that having say, the 20th ranked budget, doesn't necessarily mean we're going to finish 20th and there's decent precedent for that, if an irregular occurence.

    Looking Ahead to the Summer

I can't see us losing O'Hare, Gyo or Hamer this summer personally. I think all 3 will be with us next season. I'd also keep Shipley and Allen. They won't be automatic starters but we need a decent sized squad and both have proved on occasion this season, that they can be useful at times.

Well, not really. Leicester winning the league fits your analogy - a 5000/1 offering. Millwall finishing in the top 10 despite having a lower end budget isn't the same thing.

Good report. Some outliers though like Millwall, PNE and someone else...had to go back in and remember but you need to sign up. I agree that wages/expenditure can be a good indication of where a team should finish but there's plenty of examples of where the correlations don't work.

    Running

Bought these a couple of weeks ago. Been out 3 times, 2-3 miles at a time. Hate running but need to lose weight so thought if I bought a new pair of runners, it'll make me get out.

Not often. But how often does a league table totally reflect budgets?

Regardless, the value of their main starting 11 was a fraction of their rivals.

Well, they don't contradict my own points, but ok. My parting piece is that MR has previously delivered above budget so I'm confident that he would continue the same. Leicester won the EPL with a squad valued at no more than £25m. Money (and throwing it at players) doesn't always equate to...

No you didn't explain why. In response to my question you've quoted, you said: Because the quality of the league this season is utter crap - And how do you know it'll be better next season? and clubs are still feeling the effects of COVID on their budgets. - And that's no different to us...

Then what are you wanting them to do...I'm not sure what your point is? I wanted them to bring in more attacking options - they didn't. Am I upset? A little. Is it the end of the world and means we won't get the play offs this season and are going to struggle next season? No.

There's a fine balance, isn't there though? How many times have we commented on teams chucking millions at a shot going up and then not making. A risk strategy that a club in our position cannot employ. And the two clubs you've picked - one who've been an established Championship side for years...

Yeah but how do you know clubs are going to look to spend again? How do you know we're not in a similar position to those other clubs? Are we not still feeling the effects of Covid? And saying the league is crap - we're going to lose 6 teams who don't deserve to be here at the end of the...

New lot of TV money, new sponsorship, potential investment from wealthy individuals? Edit - maybe outgoing transfers as well? We've never been blessed with lots of cash but have signed players for money. Why would that stop now?
