Wilson starting on the opening day

Despite that striker not scoring in any of the play off games, and Wilson only conceded 1 in 3 games, and that goal was due to a defensive error.

Transfer Rumour 25/26 Summer Transfer Window

They are giving it a good go but they’re going to be heavily impacted by AFCON, assuming their players are called up - can miss between 4-6 PL games I believe. One thing I’d noticed with all the promoted clubs is that they’re adding physicality and speed to their sides. Leeds have signed a...

    Yep that would be bad

If we could agree that then it’s worth it, I just don’t see it as a great deal for Ryan.

But where does the club draw the line? The principle of having four first team keepers is problematic. If we can get Mat Ryan on decent wages then maybe, but I suspect he’ll want 10-15k a week and at least a two-year deal. We’ll then likely prioritise our investment in Dovin when he’s back from...

Can’t be blaming Wilson for Mayenda goal surely.

Transfer Rumour 25/26 Summer Transfer Window

I’m pointing out that what you’re saying is in contradiction to the evidence. His career has been strange but look at Emi Martinez for a strange career. From what we’ve seen and what the stats show, he’s a competent championship keeper. I don’t think anyone is thrilled that Wilson is our...

He’s not been a regular number one for 5 years

Mat Ryan, who is evidently happy seeing our his career as a well paid number 2?

We literally finished top 6 with him in goal

Wilson starting on the opening day

Laughable - we’re not Chelsea. We spent seven figures on a young keeper, we don’t have the resources to write that off and go bigger.

Wilson starting on the opening day

So your view is that we spend more millions on another keeper, despite already having a young keeper we spent millions on. One of those keepers is then surplus to requirements come January. It’s not like outfield players, instead one is just out of the team. Effectively like setting fire to your...

Wilson starting on the opening day

There’s studies that have shown this to be true, including a Uefa lead one. Moreover whilst modern day goalkeeping is demanding, it’s common sense that a goalkeeper will not be exposed to the same demands (on the knee) as an outfield players.

Wilson starting on the opening day

That’s a change of question though. Is he fine to stand in for the first half of the season, given the alternative is spending yet more money on a keeper? IMO he is.

Wilson starting on the opening day

We didn’t make the play off final in spite of Wilson though, he was fine that season and surprised us. I also don’t think he makes constant mistakes. We could do better but IMO it doesn’t make sense to spend again on a keeper when Dovin is likely back in January.

Wilson starting on the opening day

Yeah the season he made 20 clean sheets. There’s actual evidence he’s good enough but you say he isn’t.

Wilson starting on the opening day

Genuine question - how then were we a coin flip away from promotion with Wilson in goal?

Wilson starting on the opening day

Also Dovin isn’t playing outfield, he’ll return quicker, more like December/Jan, so could still play a major part in the season. His confidence and mental side might take a while but physically it’s nothing like the return to playing that an outfield player would go through.

Wilson starting on the opening day

It’s nonsense to think that a club that makes a loss outside of player sales will spend yet more money on a goalkeeper. The loan argument perhaps, but taking young keepers on loan also seems a major risk. Removing all bias, statistically he’s fine too isn’t he. 47% clean sheet record, save...
