I agree Eccles has shown real value to the team and looks ready to step up. What is most impressive is his versatility and for a young player stepping into the team at a crucial time he demonstrated he’s prepared to play whatever role for the benefit of the team.

I feel this shows the club are thinking strategically about the skills and knowledge they need to fill the gaps in the current coaching staff. High performance never stops evolving!

The agreement from the clubs side reduced the financial risk factor to the club. If we had been relegated this season and had bought Sheaf last summer, it could have caused real problems for the club. In relation to personal terms, I would guess we are matching his current deal or close to it

I guess that lack of speed of the central defenders will be addressed, so maybe McFadz & Hyam maybe under threat of not being offered a deal

If this was Max's last game - I wish him well for the future. My concern would be the replacement in the striker position, as the current players are not strong in the air, if we need to play a long ball game on occasions.

Well done to the team, management & support staff. We’ve developed as a team in the second half of the season. Good foundation for next season.

Returning the thread to Ben Sheaf...... I watched the Arsenal game last night and they were woefully slow in build up play. It’s interesting that one of the criticisms of Sheaf from numerous supporters was a habit of being too slow “on the ball”.

I question whether he’s a player we need. If Kelly and Hamer are retained and James, plus Sheaf are recruited..... assuming the loan contract clause is triggered due to retaining championship status and with Eccles as back up. Would the budget be better directed towards another position?

It might be due to his quote of saying ..... “they are too good to go down” or words to that effect. Not a clever thing to say when you’re in a relegation fight
