    Michael Doyle

You are presuming the £8k a week salary was basic (it might have been £8k inclusive of bonuses for all we know) and that the Mirror article was accurate, which is a leap of faith in itself. Even so it doesn't add up to him being paid anywhere near £8m.

    Utter nonsense

Soupy Sam and the Toffee Lady

What about those mobility type cars that would park on the cinder track around the pitch at HR. Did that happen at other grounds? Always seemed a bit strange to me, although as a kid I liked the fact that all the cars were sky blue :)

    Derby points deduction

Good example. Smith was a decent enough manager, but never a number 2. Nilsson didn't want him as he was a threat to hs position rather than a help, which undermined him and led to a disastrous end to our first season in the Championship when really we should have made the play offs.

    Famous/ Celerbrity Suporters

Terry Hall seemed to adopt the Man United fan persona for some reason after the Specials became successful. He apparently regularly went to our games in the 70's, and the punk band he was in before the Specials had a song he wrote called 'CCFC OK', about being ambushed by Leeds fans.

    New Kit !

Happy memories of some great players that graced the original kit!!

    Willis and Burge

That is really re-writing history! Burge was released and not offered a contract. Am sure we would have initially kept Willis if we could have, but his agent had lined him up for a move to Luton in the Championship which fell through. By the time he moved to Sunderland we had already moved on...

    Transfer Shouts

Really? I seem to remember plenty of moaning on here last Summer that we weren't signing players early enough.

    Ex Player Watch

Other young City players cut down by injuries in their prime that come to my mind are Graham Oakey and Lee Hurst. Unfortunately I have no idea what they did to cope with the disappointment and inevitable depression, or even what they went on to do once their careers were over.

    Tyler walker

It's not just down to his agent. Waghorn's preferred club to move to might only want to commit initially until the January window, and then see how things go. While there's a chance of another club willing to pay some of his salary I don't see CCFC just paying him off in full. I suspect he will...

Everyone on holiday I should think. I wouldn't expect any announcements until the club come back for pre season training.

    Pre Season 22/23

Is it just coincidental? It is undeniable though that our away form has followed the same pattern over the last 3 seasons, with even our promotion season not producing an away win until Christmas time. Hopefully MR can find the solution and have us firing away from home much earlier next season.

    Ex Player Watch

Terrible shame. If I remember right the previous Sunderland manager got him to play even though he was carrying an injury. His mind must be full of what ifs. These sort of instances is where the PFA should be earning their corn in supporting him to a positive future in or out of football.

    Transfer Shouts

To emphasise the disadvantage we face against the 'parachute payment' supported clubs I see Fulham have released on frees Jean Michael Seri who they signed for £25m, & Alfie Mawson who they signed for £20m. Imagine being able to spend £20m+ on bit part players filling up your squad!

    Stephen Hughes and Ben Sheaf

He was a better player technically, but he was less effective and less influential. He was derided because he patently didn't make best use of his obvious ability. His goals return of 2 in his last 3 seasons with us was frankly woeful. Doyle can look back on his career of 700 games or so knowing...

    Pre Season 22/23

Not a chance. Once we lose to one of the teams in a league below us, which on previous experience of pre seasons been and gone, we inevitably will, the doom and gloom merchants will be out in force

    Stephen Hughes and Ben Sheaf

As pointed out, Hughes career was on its way down when he joined us. He had an excellent first season but was generally poor after that. I had the impression that having such a good start to his career had made him a little complacent, which led to him not living up to his early promise and...

    Wycombe vs Sunderland

The Sunderland team that played today would be fighting relegation in the Championship, while the Wycombe side would be near certs to finish rock bottom. Will be interesting to see how much Sunderland spend in the Summer, as they will surely have to do, if they have ideas of finishing mid table...

    Transfer Shouts

Maybe not, but will he be willing to take a big loss in wages to order to play elsewhere? Professionally of course he will want to play week in week out, but the advice and guidance he gets from his agent and family might be otherwise.

    Transfer Shouts

We definitely won't get a fee for him. I should think we'd happily give him away for free if there were any takers. Unlikely to be any that will be happy to take on his wages though, so the best we might do is cover a small percentage of his wages to whoever he would move onto. My gut feeling is...
