Match Thread Coventry City-SWFC Match Thread- Saturday 5th October

If MR was to leave, Buckingham rightly or wrongly would be viewed by most of our support as a disappointing appointment. He has done a decent job at Oxford and they have made a decent start, but this is just a moment in time and not indicative that he would do a good job for us in the long...

    Bassette

Not seen it back since the goal was scored but even after their player beat Eccles it wasn't a situation that should have automatically led to a certain goal, certainly not if we had been in that situation! I was disappointed our last covering defender didn't slide in to try and at least put off...

    Plan b?

Having Wright, Simms, Asante and Bassette in the squad it makes sense playing 2 of them up front together, with the option of bringing on the other 2 against tiring defenders. This 2 week break gives MR the opportunity to change things round.

    Sheaf

Hopefully the upcoming break will allow him to catch up to speed and come back as the player of last season. That's both today's game and the Spurs one where he lost possession in injury time, allowing the opposition to break and score.

    GMK

Wasn't Otis was one of the first GMK mainstays to come over to SBT? Not connected but another poster I remember was Japandy who unwisely decided to bring his Christian faith into a discussion, which thereafter was used as a stick to beat him with. The discussions were often not for the faint...

    GMK

It was a completely different beast under Neville and Smiles, but the half a dozen or so regular posters left at the end of GMK were very pro SISU. They all were going to Northampton and nailed their colours to the SISU mast. Without wanting to re-engage arguments from all our yesterdays, and...

    GMK

GMK was great until Knowl took over, but by the end it was a bag of wank dominated by a pro SISU clique. I seem to remember SBJon being a particularly obnoxious poster.

For those who were there at the start of it all

Most management changes end in failure, hence the term 'the managerial merry go round', which we previously endured in the Reid/ Adams/ Dowie/ Coleman/ Bothroyd/ Thorn days. Yes there is an occasional bounce to start with, but it is very rarely sustained. If we get rid of MR it would be a...

Match Thread Coventry City - Blackburn Rovers Match Thread - Tuesday 1st Oct

Bidwell hasn't had a great start to the season but I feel much more comfortable with him in the team over Dasilva, who is too susceptible to getting beat by a simple long ball over his head, and who also leaves the team weaker physically at a time when the team as a whole doesn't have an...

For those who were there at the start of it all

Unless we were to get really lucky with our choice, any new manager would be more likely to take us backwards rather than forwards. We would be really stupid to dispose of MR right now.

    The Players

The not trying label doesn't fit with me. There does however seem to be a lack of confidence and belief, which probably hasn't been helped by MR's constant chopping and changing, which leaves a number of players uncertain of their places and role in the team. It probably just requires another...

    the issues

I would be interested to see how Simms and Bassette worked up front together. I've got a feeling they could be a good combination, although playing them both would require a fundamental change in tactics, and probably leave no room for Wright, so would be a big decision on MR's part.

    Kitching vs Binks

Not really sure what to make of Dovin yet either. None of the goals he's conceded have been particularly bad on his part, but equally he hasn't yet made a 'wow' save either. He doesn't seem to be very vocal in organising the defence in front of him, which I guess is understandable given his age...

    Best starting 11

Taking out variances in form and squad rotation, then yes that is probably MR's strongest starting XI, and I suspect he already knows that. Unfortunately injuries, suspensions and variable performance levels has prevented him from playing that team.

    Robins had zero clue

He's done well at Oxford, but that doesn't mean he would do well elsewhere. If other Championship teams are looking for a new manager all would pick MR over him. Bringing in a new manager would be a complete lottery - we might hit lucky, but most would be likely to fail. After all that MR has...

Match Thread Coventry City - Swansea City Match Thread - Saturday 21st Sep

Seriously? Pretty sure in our years falling out of the Championship and then out of League 1 there were plenty accusations of players not making much effort!

    Ex Player Watch

That's your take on it. A take I find a bit weird! You have chosen to interpret it as a lap of honour, whereas most normal people would view it as a way of showing his appreciation for the start we gave him, and to the City where he is from. A lack of respect would have been taunting us &...
