Their start will be key though. I really don’t see an any manager surviving a poor first month or two given the circumstances. That’s why I’m ok with Lampard because he has a few things going for him that might help him start well.
Yeah, hiring some random foreigner to manage in one of the most grueling leagues with it's notoriously tough winter schedule coming up and an already furious fanbase on his back, that is a recipe for guaranteed success right there!
Abraham, James, Hudson-Odoi, Christensen etc.
Your arguments on this are weird. Of course Lampard won't look good when you discount half the players for some random arbitrary reasons.
It's not about "kids waiting in the wings"?
We've got plenty of young players with some experience who we need to kick on to the next level (Dovin, Thomas, Binks, Eccles, Torp, Rudoni, Simms etc.). That's what Lampard has done elsewhere.
Why?
I think there was a genuine process, just King has obviously always had Lampard front and centre in his head (him confirming he was in the running was extremely odd).
I reckon Bloomfield would have jumped at any chance of the job, Wycombe is a dead end really, their long term ceiling is...
It's not about handling anything though, in fact one of Lampard's strengths has been facing the media and fans.
Having seen the reaction to the sacking and the fan forum, it's pretty clear there are a large proportion of fans who are very unhappy already and you have to think they could quite...
The players & Carr showed at Sunderland they can get results in tough games. Points aren't being written off.
Realistically it's just a good decision, imagine if we lost heavily at home to Sheff Utd on tele with Hamer/O'Hare scoring. Would be an absolute disaster for the new manager.
My read on it right now is that Lampard has been the #1 option the whole way through, Doug was probably aware he would be interested before he sacked Robins.
I'm sure a process has been conducted, but more from a standpoint of making sure Lampard is the man rather than an open view.
The timing...
I've not actually seen many people say he'd be a great signing with no caveats tbh.
Having come round to the idea, I quite like Lampard as an option because at least he is likely to get respect from the players immediately thanks to his achievements as a player, and he's got plenty of...
