    Wasps downward spiral...

I originally had an account on lichess, which is where i hit 1850 (1870 to be precise)..... but although i liked the interface of the platform more than chess.com, i didn't really like the community... always seemed to be people trying to take-back moves, or just let the clock run down rather...

I have ratings from 1994-96 on there of 78D, 69C, 69D..... however these appear to be the "revised ECF rating"..... i would need to convert these to the "traditional ECF rating" (no idea how to do this), and then multiply that value by 7.5 and add 700, to get to an equivalent online rating...

Yes i remember the name well.... i actually emailed someone at Nuneaton a couple of years ago re entering into some local tournaments... but you apparently need to be registered and graded to play in them.... So its just been online chess for me. managed to reach a high of 1850 online, but...

    Wasps downward spiral...

I was in Nuneaton Chess Club as a young teen. Played Whoberley often. When i was at school the top three schools in the area were ourselves (Goodyers End, Bedworth), Good Shepherd (probably the one in Cov but i'm not sure), and Bentley Heath (Knowle)

    Running

Tough weekend. Ran in English Fell Champs at Tebay on saturday.... had a good run by my standards, finishing well ahead of people i wouldn't usually expect, including one or two who i can't usually beat in the cross-country leagues.... yet could still only manage 50th, 10 places and 4 minutes...

Best advice is to see a sports physio... Unfortunately in my experience yes some form of rest is needed. When i really suffered with it, i was able to continue training by minimising running, and switching to cycling and cross-trainer. A physio will advise best, but prevention is the best...

Yes its a lot quieter than the Cov one.... perhaps 150-200people instead of 5-600.... although being three laps instead of two, you still get similar issues if you're lapping people. There's a trail section on the two larger laps... down a grassy path and then through some trees, and a steep...

haha i think i'd have been 14... and i viewed the on-pitch activities from the safety of the East Stand. My dad was staunchly against trouble at football... apart from the one time he came in the West Terrace with me and tried to get on the pitch to have a go at Chris Sutton!

City fan on the pitch whacking Leeds fans, with his young kid still on his shoulders!

    Who would we like

Got to agree with this... There's a massive trend on here to see everything in the context of how it affects CCFC's chances of progression (an admirable standpoint i'm sure)..... eg "lets hope some team we don't actually give a toss about, go on a decent run, then we might get £100k sell-on...

    Running

Joined a different training group within Coventry Godiva, in an attempt to push on a bit... Have gone from being one of the youngest (and quickest) in my group, to now being the oldest by a long way, and very much at the slower end, of the new group. First session was on tuesday in the pouring...

3000mtrs track today at Pingles. 10:52.... 4th out of 7 Godiva runners. Think was 11th out of 15 overall. Happy to go under 11mins, and finish in a higher than expected position, especially given the weather.... it was very unpleasant racing conditions!

    Running

I've been suffering a massive hangover of the legs since racing the Yorkshire Three Peaks a fortnight ago. Had to miss club training this week as there was just no way i could contemplate any form of hard session. Although i did do a moderately tough treadmill session yesterday... 10 x...

    Who would we like

Although Leeds is a decent away day... its arguably the poorest of the bigger Yorkshire days.... both Sheffield clubs, and i'd say Barnsley, are better away days imo...

    Who would we like

Been to Leeds twice in the championship (1st time round) years, once was boxing day i think. We took pretty poor followings to both if i recall... Although one of them was the scene of that Don Hutchinson goal...

Rule changes you’d like to see next season

I think the entire policy on "professional fouls" and "dangerous play" is completely arse-about-face. A slightly late, but genuine attempt at a tackle, can easily get you a straight red. However, diving/feigning injury, and my pet-hate "taking a booking for the team" are whats ruining...

    Running

Raced the Yorkshire Three Peaks fell race on saturday... its a very well-known fell walk/hike, and a very popular charity event (as much so as the National Three Peaks) For a fell race, there's an awful lot of fast flat running and some decent sections of road... i'd heard many horror-stories...

Use a Suunto Ambit Run (i think.... it was given to me free 2nd hand) to measure my distances running. But record everything on good old pen & paper.
