Whatever happened to Coventry city centre?

Would be good if this beautiful old pub could be sorted out and re branded. Fantastic location and with the right people in charge could be areal winner.

Whatever happened to Coventry city centre?

Agree with just about all of this. Other high end retailers will follow a name like John Lewis because they know shoppers with disposable cash will shop there and probably shop with them as well. In fairness the council (I am most deffinately not a fan) do seem to be trying to improve the image...

    Fifa officials arrested

The next few years in world football could be very interesting. This could just be the begining if the end for FIFA in its present form. Be very interesting to see where the power lies when all the dust settles, but I strongly suspect that when it does North America will be the new...

Whatever happened to Coventry city centre?

On a slightly different subject have also heard from someone in the know that the development of the Old Grammer School on the corner of Hales Street and the Burges is looking pretty spectacular. Have seen how much work has gone into the outside appearance of the building, but inside is every...

That would be a good place to re site them, or down the precinct where Allied Carpets used to be. That shop has been empty for a long time.

Whatever happened to Coventry city centre?

Agree about Wilko's!!!!!! Makes the place look like a car boot sale. We all need bin liners and sellotape but we dont have to put the shop that sells them in one of the most prominant parts of the Citys shopping complex.

Whatever happened to Coventry city centre?

Thinking about it if Cathedaral Lanes does end up having a few nice restaurants in it, then they will need to consider a few bars in and around the same area. I think the problem might be that so many bars in the city centre really only aim for, and cater for, students. Any new ones that aim...

Whatever happened to Coventry city centre?

The town centre is getting better........slowly. The Town Wall Tavern is superb, great atmosphere and good selection of drinks. Drappers Bar (Browns) is pretty good too, although they seem to have altered the menu. Also the Establishment seems pretty decent, although have not eaten there. The...

What does this mean for us?

Not sure if this is relavent to this thread, but was talking to someone who has always played for a well known local amatuer rugger team in Coventry (won't name them). Since Wasps have been at the Ricoh he and all his mates have always gone up as it was on a Sunday and didn't get in the way of...

    buying and selling a house

My understanding with regard to a probate sale is pretty much as described above by NW. if the house needs a bit of refurbishment ie new kitchen, bathroom, carpets, heating and windows then they will try and knock you down. We were lucky with the house we rent out as although the spec was not...

    buying and selling a house

Renting a property now that was owned by an elderly relative. Agents identified the tennents and we decided who we were going to rent to. Provided you get the right people and not some fly by nights it can be very easy. Once a year arrange the Land Lords certificate and make sure any repairs are...

    buying and selling a house

Sorry to hear your news Bantam. Instead of selling have you considered renting the property out instead?

Back to the Bad old Days in Coventry

Agree, its a very nice place to go to now. Have been a few times since it changed hands and the new people do go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Its bars like this that the city centre needs to get people to go round town again.

    buying and selling a house

Have not moved house for years, the last time was stressful enough!!! Hear loads of stories these days of buyers waiting until the last minute and then demanding a drop in price.

    Council Less Reid JLR CCFC

Well put, it seems as though CCFC, SISU and everything that goes with them are being very slowly marginalised and the Council are out manouvering them.

    Axa Building

What ever damage the Luftwaffe did to the city of Coventry, it is nowhere near the damage Coventry City Council has done to the buildings and history of the city since those air raids.

    pictures of highfield road

I miss the place too, so very much. Have said before on here how I am slowly looseing interest in football and everything it currently is. The more I think about it, the decission to leave Highfield Road was the begining of this process.
