Cov utd to play at Butts next season

No, far from it. I was at that charity match too (we'd moved to Cov by then). Wasn't up to much as a ground IIRC. Nice enough now though, and if, as Jon Sharp keeps telling us, the facilities are to be improved, it should be an excellent 8-10000 capacity facility with covered stands on both...

Cov utd to play at Butts next season

That's what I thought. The Co-op Funeral Home was just to the side of it (opposite side from the grandstand) back then too, so it all adds up. Didn't know they'd since fenced it off though. Very sad.

Cov utd to play at Butts next season

As I recall it this was the main reason Town folded. I was born in Rugby and used to watch Town on odd occasions at Bilton Road. The Co-op owned the land at the time (may still do so for all I know) and decided they wanted it back to develop it. If you look at it now, many, many years later...

    Strange Band Names

Pete Brown and Piblokto! (The exclamation mark is theirs). Combine that with the title of their seminal album: Things May Come and Things May Go, but the Art School Dance Goes on Forever. Doesn't get any better than that...

    Strange Band Names

Thought it was just me! 'Delilah' from the Total Balalaika Show disc is well worth a listen too. (Like a proper saddo, I have the Three Disc Collector's Edition DVD set. :().

What is the one food you could eat every day for the rest of your life

Curry. Indian, Thai, Nepalese. Curry. If I ever fancy a pizza it'll always be from Ponchinello in Hinckley. Bloody marvellous. Family-run, been there for donkey's years, and for good reason. (And probably half the price of the 'chain' shit).

What are you currently listening to?

Not that fussed about Split. Had it from new, but just not that fussed. The only time The 'hogs featured on TOTP though, IIRC?

Love 'em. Just been playing a bit of Groundhogs (Thank Christ for the Bomb) on the old Rega. Think it was the first album I ever bought. Still magic

Butts not big enough for Speedway

Wembley used to lift the corners of the pitch and lay the track on it. Pain in the arse though and not something you'd want to do on a weekly basis. Not so bad if, like at Wembley, it was used more for speedway than football. Wouldn't work the other way round.

    Butts park arena?

I think someone's forgetting that it would also be the rugby club's ground (and that the 'old' East Stand would be knocked down to make room for the new one. And that it would all be two-teir. And that the pitch would be lowered). Nice try apart from that though! ;)

This was my era . what was yours ?

First match of 1964/5 for me, at age 11, with my dad and granddad. We stood on the terrace in front of the brand new Sky Blue Stand at the end nearest the Kop. Can't remember who we played, but we won 2-0 or 2-1 I think) and I recall filing out afterwards and saying "Well, that's two points in...

    Elson hooi in talks?

Can't believe you lumped Boateng in with that collection of carthorses (and when I say carthorses i'm being very kind to Roger van Gool).

Butts Park Arena is new home

It holds approx 3000, and quite a few of those are designated as 'dugouts'. The West Stand (if ever built) has the potential for around 5000 seats as it would be able to build deeper than the existing East Stand (almost to the park, but leaving an access track between the building and the...

Really hope Leicester win the Premier League. Who's with me?

Looking less likely now (Go Cherries!). Hope so anyway as life here in 'incleh would be bleedin' intolerable.
