Burton Burge us out the way - TLS Report

Strength to fucking strength, ace stuff Kelly's pass back put me in mind of his pass back against Notts County away last season, albeit from a less pressured position this time

Played very well for the first 15 minutes and then in bursts thereafter. Burton were considerably less able than us a footballing unit but played to their strengths, saw out our early pressure then imposed their game of hassling, pressuring and crowding our men. A notable change in mood and flow...

Stockdale 8 - did nothing wrong as far as I could see. Looked unfit though! Sterling 7 - pretty good. Not to the forefront as much as recently. Willis 7 - didn't seem in any trouble but worried me a couple of times holding on to it for too long or making avaerage clearances Hyam 8 - seemed to...

Match Thread Coventry City vs. Blackpool Match Thread - Saturday 26th Jan

They're maybe the most limited opponents I've seen, twice, though Plymouth and Wimbledon weren't far behind.

Abysmal - did no one predict that's what Blackpool would try to do?

We've given up, like against Blackpool in August, Scunthorpe, Plymouth and many other teams recently

This is small comfort, but in the first half Blackpool were the worst opposition I've seen this season - as they were in the away match. Looks like it'll be the same result though as we can't score and have no gumption.

Not sure about the top end of the league. But if we score more we should be fine - right?

An ifollow match for me, as usual. First thing: some terrific football and overall a good performance. We played really well, quite a lot. Plenty of chances created. The first half was excellent. Hiwula was really lively and Enobakhare looked in control in the midfield. Plymouth or Shrewsbury...

How we miss someone like this

There's a school of thought that the small percentage of great stuff that leads to goals is all you can ask for from a tricky winger. Almost no one beats his man 7 or 8 times out of 10. Messi, maybe. Plus, couldn't you say about almost any outfield player that apart from the good things they...

Yeah, these aren't far off. I'd give Burge one more though (6) and Bayliss one more (7), plus perhaps a 6.5 for Kelly. He was relatively enterprising. Bright was all right and so he can have a 5 from me. Not clear to me yet what he'll offer us though. Chaplin largely anonymous.

    Today's performance

In the first half, kicking towards their few dozen fans. It was a sort of low scissor kick that Roche parried from what looked like two yards away.

    Today's performance

JCH had a point-blank shot stopped by a blinding save though

    Rank this season's shockers

Yes we were limited and often outplayed but fought hard against a physical side and debatably deserved the point *what penalty?*

    Today's performance

Yeah, had forgotten about the shock of having an unnecessarily rebuilt side foisted on us in that roiling heat against Scunthorpe

    Today's performance

I struggle to believe the off-field worries really affect the players. If they're any good they'll just go somewhere else, as about 10-12 of them will probably do anyway most summers. No, I put our slump down to two factors: a season-long problem - lack of good strikers; and a circumstantial...
