Wasps in talks to takeover Ricoh

Having had a quick read through some Wasps forums, it seems pretty clear most of their fans aren't keen on the idea. There's talk about attendances dropping from an average of 7,000 at Wycombe, to 4,000 at the Ricoh. 4,000! To put this in perspective, even if every fan who currently goes to...

Wasps in talks to takeover Ricoh

That's my opinion too, fwiw. The more I think about this, the more wrong it feels. I detest SISU and all of their new stadium nonsense with a vengance, but if this is a negotiating strategy by ACL and CCC then it's a crass one. If it's actually serious, then to me it's pretty outrageous. I...

If Otium can't get a consumer credit licence then borrowing £10m-£15m to part fund the new stadium build might be a bit tricky. What's the most you can borrow from Wonga these days? They might also find the builders a bit reluctant to accept IOUs. ;)

Wasps in talks to takeover Ricoh

Again, a really fair point this. I wish both sides would just step away from the microphone for a bit. I don't want to hear Fisher talking about his plans for a new stadium. I don't want to hear that ACL are looking for alternatives to CCFC. I want them to sit down together, and actually...

    Talking of new stadiums.........

Yep, very fair point - although you would think that most football stadium developers might at least sound out the local council before looking to buy a site. Either way, I genuinely wish TF would just belt up about this, even if the club are actually considering it. Ditto ACL and the whole...

Wasps in talks to takeover Ricoh

The Ricoh in terms of freehold probably isn't. But at least at one point in time a share of ACL was. It might be again. Whose fault is it that that didn't happen first time around, and doesn't seem likely to now either?

Wasps in talks to takeover Ricoh

It's a bit of a step from Wasps moving here to assuming that Cov RFC would fail. Most of the rugby fans that I know go to watch Cov RFC because they're from Coventry. I'd have absolutely no interest in watching Wasps instead of Cov RFC. And I'd absolutely agree it's hypocritical complaining...

Wasps in talks to takeover Ricoh

That means that they'd have to buy the Higgs share, at least in part I'd guess. As I understand it, either side (CCC or Higgs) can veto the sale of the other's share. There's a way to go on this I'd venture - even if Wasps were willing and able to put up the money, and the RFU were prepared to...

See your point but then wouldn't additional investment into ACL by a third party, which I think is what we're talking about here, actually act as a bulwark against the risk of having the council loan called in (which is all that SISU can hope for with regard to ACL, at best).

Wasps in talks to takeover Ricoh

I can see exactly where you're coming from, and I'd tend to agree. But the problem as I see it is that SISU have done bugger all to progress discussions with regard to buying into ACL, and are still taking CCC to court with the potential risks implied to ACL's business. Additionally, Fisher...

Wasps in talks to takeover Ricoh

Why? From a commercial angle it might well make sense. CCFC had the chance to buy in, but botched it horribly and are now relying on court action to get what they want. As far as we know CCFC are not showing much appetite to renew negotiations regarding a share in ACL, and indeed are still...

Bang on the money mate. The only difference I see is that this is a much bigger move (geographically) than the others you mention. I hope that on that basis, the RFU see sense and refuse to sanction it. Wouldn't bank on it though!

I'm not quite sure how this would sit with the RFU at either national or regional level (I don't really understand the RFU set up in truth, it looks even more complex than the FL!). When interviewed recently on CWR, Peter Rossborough seemed to imply that it was nowhere near as straightforward...

    16,000 where were you?

The attendance is about where it was before our owners took us to Northampton. There seem to people here suggesting that we should all rejoice because something that never should have happened has now been corrected. That's a bit like suggesting that you should pay a reward to the bloke who...

Average wages. You know for real people. I'm honestly confused as to whether you're on the wind up again, after actually posting some half-decent stuff. If the debate was about how Ferraris have outstripped PL footballer's wages, then you'd have a point. In 1998 you were watching top level...

I've got one of them too. That price just seems unreal by todays standards - it almost feels as though we should have been watching the game in black and white. ;)

You can check the calculations yourself, I've provided the link. Or you can work it out in Excel if you've got the time or the ability - the historical data is all out there. Feel free to correct it if you think either me or the Guardian have got it wrong. If the question is, "Is football...

I'm ahead of you Wingy (for the first time ever!). If you take average salaries from here... http://www.measuringworth.com/datasets/ukearncpi/result2.php And the relative cost of tickets, then (I think) compared to the average wage it was about 1.5% in 1976, and 2.3% in 2014 (assuming a...

Good for you, me and about 27,000 others too. Maybe if prices were lower, there would be more Yeovil stubs floating around next week. (These aren't, btw, my stubs. I was trying to find some historical data about our ticket prices, and I ended up trawling ebay. I wish I'd have kept mine now...
