    Moon Landing 50 Years Ago

I stayed up all night to watch it, as did at least one very geeky school friend. Got bored at one point while waiting for the moon walk and heated some soup up on the stove only to find the bread I dunked in it had gone off over the weekend and now tasted like like pure penicillin!

    Old expressions your parents/grandparents used

A very posh-sounding daughter of a British Army Major taught me these: "Arse about face" (the wrong way around) "Arse over tit" (upside down) "Gone tits-up" (dead or no longer working) What was funny was that she said these things as if they were the most normal thing in the world.

What is going on with the Tory leadership contest?

Nothing will happen on the 31st October. It will come and go like every so-called 'deadline' before it.

    Women's World Cup 2019

Sweden’s Kosovare Asllani: ‘30,000 people came to celebrate our medal’ Sweden’s Kosovare Asllani has a very different view of the Women’s World Cup third-place match to Phil Neville, who labelled it a “nonsense” game, and it is fair to say that plenty of her compatriots agree with her. When...

People have been doing that for decades although the Airfix range is now hopelessly outdated and they are no longer the leading manufacturer.

Why would Farage be at a protest in support of one of the appointments which prompted his resignation from the UK Party?

Unusual things that you are into...

Miniature plastic soldiers! It dates back to 1989 when I was totally immobilised by a viral infection for several months. As often happens in that situation there was one thing which really nagged me and in my case it was the historical inaccuracy of the Airfix' miniature soldiers I collected...

That was Children's Favourites with 'Uncle Mac' on Saturday mornings :) I think you'll find it was Michael Holliday's version of Runaway Train they always played?

Be grateful you didn't grow up in the 1950s/60s. The BBC radio playlist in those days consisted almost entirely of a handful of songs from Hollywood musicals played over and over again. "I Could Have Danced All Night", "Surrey with a Fringe on the Top", "High on a Hill Lived a Lonely Goatherd"...

Did you have to do work experience when you were at school?

It wasn't allowed back then either, although it didn't stop anyone. You had to be 18 to work on a building site, on licenced premises and probably some other jobs I don't know about. There was an exception for relatives of the person who owned a business so for example the 16 year old daughter...

The 'not so obvious' hot babes thread!

Saw her for the first time tonight, have to agree, she is pretty hot. Wouldn't have noticed the missing forearm if I hadn't read it here, assumed it was just a loose shirt sleeve.

    Geoffrey Robinson stands down

"Represented his constituency"? No one has seen him around here in thirty years. He stopped campaigning in Spon End once it became a safe Labour seat. We get a leaflet through the door with his picture on it once every four years and that's it.

Boats! Anything to do with the sea, navy, water, swimming, getting wet, drowning. I was born just after the great flood of 1953 which might have something to do with it?

I disagree. He's doing an excellent job of making the non-commited hostile to the EU in general and to Germans in particular. :p
