EFL to end season this week - City likely to be promoted

So (according to transfermarkt) 185 out of 621 registered league 1 players are out of contract June 30th. Say 30%. Plus technically all loanee contracts finish May 31st- nearly 100 players. Championship around 25% out of contract with another nearly 100 loan contracts. some currently would be...

EFL to end season this week - City likely to be promoted

got no chance of suing individual clubs. Clubs instructed by EFL to vote. Can't get sued for how they vote. Or if a club is forced into admin due restart do they sue Peterborough & others that voted to resume?

General rule is both sides going into a civil case believe they are onto a winner based on legal advice. So 50% of the time legal advice must be wrong :)

Just seems football is mirroring the Govt. Complete inability to make tough, expedient timely decisions.

All in this together whilst he's holed up in Florida :) clown. Becoming Trump-like.

EFL to end season this week - City likely to be promoted

That's key for me. Why would sides with nothing to play for want to extend player contracts etc.? They'll just put in reserve/youth players. No difference in fielding weakened sides for financial reasons if players can't be forced to play if they have Covid related concerns.

EFL to end season this week - City likely to be promoted

sure clubs opposed to return could come up with a different set of numbers. Kieran MacGuire (who goes through every club's finances) came up with a figure of 500k. Big difference to struggling clubs who can't balance their books by selling a "Toney".

EFL to end season this week - City likely to be promoted

EFL will pay for tests against future monies due to clubs so ultimately clubs paying. But all the other PPE etc costs paid by clubs directly. It's a cash flow measure whilst doors are closed.

EFL to end season this week - City likely to be promoted

This PPE figure seems to be shrinking by the day with him. He's deliberately missing the point. Clubs with financial issues or nothing to play for don't want to be extending players contracts past June 30th. Would seem some teams bitching about this type of teams putting out very weak sides in...

Or 1 pt clear of 8th :) At least one of these playoff sides would fall out of contention. I think as a fan of these 4 playoff clubs I'd be taking what we have rather than gambling. Might only get 2 games in before it shuts again. So Oxford could easily drop from 3rd to 8th and have no chance of...

Think League 1 clubs know pretty much the vote will go having gauged the mood of what meetings there have been - Peterborough's owners seemed to have given up as soon as the EFL announcement was made this week.

EFL to end season this week - City likely to be promoted

World cup averages a game every 4-5 days. so roughly a 1.5 games per week so 9 games takes 6 weeks. It's 7 games in about a month for the finalist. Bundesliga is doing 2 games per week so even with that would take play-off finalists into middle of August if L1 resumes with a beginning of July...

EFL to end season this week - City likely to be promoted

That surely makes it impossible to complete a proper season including play-offs etc. Players would have been "off" for over 3 months (longer than a normal season break). Clubs have about 6 weeks in a normal preseason but even if they get it down to a 4 week pre-season (for a beginning of July...

Fair play for finally realizing there is a bigger picture. Very difficult to see how a lot of L1 & 2 clubs can survive being BCD this season, let alone when it continues into next season.

wonder Oxford & Pompey fans feel about it. Peterborough certainly have players & particularly the fixtures to go past them.

2 weeks for a decision. Then training period is past the beginning of July. Clubs aren't going to "unfurlough" players now on the off chance season may restart.

EFL to end season this week - City likely to be promoted

Surprised the PFA is being so quiet about all of this particularly with so many members being out of contract at the end of June and in a very uncertain situation if they sign contract extensions to whenever the season would end.

EFL to end season this week - City likely to be promoted

Struggle to feel sorry for Fleetwood as they've a wage bill in excess of their turnover and continued to spend money. One of the largest wage bills in the Division without the crowds to support it.

What does the future hold for league 1 and 2

Football finance is a mess. Even with the money awash in the PL clubs have let wages in particular get ridiculously out of control. Many clubs have wage bills in excess of 70% of turnover. In the Championship you've got clubs paying out more in wages than their income. Already there is serious...
