    Israel - Palestinian Conflict

Indeed, and in fairness some more of those Palestinian children will soon be dying slow, agonising deaths from secondary infections and suchlike because of the absence of power and medical supplies. It's hideous and immoral and ultimately maybe even self-destructive. It's the best ever...

You must be thinking of mathematics... Pythagoras 500BC ish. Still kind of applies. Euclid, the father of geometry, 200 years later. Physics, maybe? Archimedes; a ton of stuff including displacement, calculus (iirc), and good at screwing too. :) If you want to get to the moon and back, then...

In theory, prosecution and punishment for the people committing the crimes. From soldiers on the ground to the people giving the orders. In theory.

    Israel - Palestinian Conflict

That's not quite true is it. Israel isn't under an existential threat from anyone these days, it's got an effective military (supported by the US) and is a nuclear power. Which Arab nation, other than Iran, has come out in support of Hamas and their aims? I haven't googled it, so this isn't a...

    Israel - Palestinian Conflict

Interesting read here on the rules of war, and how both sides, as if we didn't know it already, breach the Geneva convention etc.. It is unremittingly bleak. I absolutely understand why Israel wants retribution against Hamas, who wouldn't, but at what point do their allies say, "no, too far"...

    Israel - Palestinian Conflict

You don't have to be on the side of the terrorists to express reasonable concern about how Israel reacts, specifically in regard to the siege and cutting water and power. The EU have done it, representatives of the UN have done it. All quite reasonably stated, so it's quite possible to support...

If you don't care then why are you responding? Why was it posted in the first place? Of course people care what he thinks, and given it relates to the conflict it seems fair game for the thread. Feel free to ignore it if choose, but it's not your or my place to be telling people they can't...

    Israel - Palestinian Conflict

Right.... what Starmer says on this isn't important. So, is it important what he says on anything else or not, because I'm not quite clear now whether we should listen to him or not? Perhaps you and David could separate out his "important" statements that we should listen to, from the ones...

Hmm. I think discussing what our politicians are saying about the situation is fair enough, and politely, I don't think it's down to you to decide to shut down the debate. If you don't want to take part, fair enough - other threads are available.

    Israel - Palestinian Conflict

He's the leader of the Labour party and probably our next Prime Minister. I think what he says on this issue is pretty important. It gives a fair indication of how his government will behave. If you're interested in politics, on who to vote for, and on where the UK will stand on the world...

    Israel - Palestinian Conflict

I'm not sure if he really believes it, or if he's just saying it because he's terrified of how the right wing press will play it if he dares to criticise Israel. This is the problem with having a leader who is so scared of the Daily Mail that he'll say anything to try to keep them onside.

    Israel - Palestinian Conflict

There are almost a million children in the Gaza strip. They're innocent too, unless simply being born Palestinian is a crime. Many of those children will die in the next few days directly because of Israel's actions. There won't be as many photos, but the deaths will be horrific nonetheless...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

The positive cost benefit of HS2 is *exactly* where it all falls down. That's precisely where I came in. Have you read the any of the dissenting opinions. This one is well researched and clearly stated, and from someone with access to the data and no axe to grind... It's a little odd how you...

    Israel - Palestinian Conflict

It's horrific from both sides. Hamas killing women and children and taking civilians hostage - clearly the actions of a terrorist group. Israel openly violating the Geneva conventions by indiscriminately targeting civilian infrastructure and in effect putting 2.3 million people into a state of...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

That's just the 4.7bn overspend that you didn't count, if you divide it by 31million households. The full cost, per household, using your analysis, £3200. Three grand, from every household in the UK just for HS2. Hmm. Back to the original question then, is 100bn good value for money or could...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

We didn't stop spending on COVID because a lot people were dying or at risk of death or serious illness. HS2, is not Brexit, and cannot resolve a pandemic. Your basic argument now seems to be that we need HS2 no matter what the cost. I don't agree, surely we've done this to death now?
