To be fair, the way it dragged on suggests he probably did play hardball. If the reported fee is close to being true, that's a really good deal, all things considered.

Can you imagine him trying to explain that strategy to MR, without a hugely negative kickback. If it's a case of the recruitment team not committing to certain players until it's 'certain' , then I'd understand that strategy.

Not sure that it will be quite that much.. 16,500 x £500 = a smidge over £8m, but there will be a lot of FZ sales, 'ordinary £400 sales, plus a lot of children's tickets, so think you can knock quite a bit off that figure. Agree, though - there should still be a few £££s in the kitty.
