Overall ratings mean very little in reality. If you look at the players individual attributes they look pretty accurate don't they?

Well they might not give it their all but rules are in place to prevent the fielding of severely weakened teams. In the starting XI, 6 players must have played in the previous league fixture or there must be at least 6 out of the 11 who have made the most starting appearances in league and cup.
