Probably curse us by saying this on match day but Reading's run of form is freakish & unsustainable... I'm sure every team they've played so far has said similar but it's possible we could nick something from this. They are 14th in the XG table & their shot conversation % is off the charts...

    Sheaf and Hamer

Years ago they relied on spotters, not anymore. With data analytics becoming more important & signing players from all around the world, using a spotter isn't usually practical. That's not to say they don't still use them, of course they do but it's not the primary method. I used the stats that...

    Sheaf and Hamer

Not the readily available free ones - Clubs & pro scouts use Wyscout, Instat or 7Scout mostly; Opta are widely used for stats...

    Sheaf and Hamer

🤣 All the stats sites & sources agree, including those used by pro scouts & the clubs themselves. The professional statisticians are all wrong though & you know better.

    Sheaf and Hamer

Utter poppycock. Sheaf's pass completion for the Blackburn & Middlesbrough games were 86% & 73% respectively. Kelly & Hamer who you've touted as doing better... 73% & 59% respectively. Hamer's passing accuracy is 68% for the season, Sheaf's is 82%. I don't know where the narrative has come...

    Would you have bright back?

Exactly. Plus, as most are slowly starting to realise, Sheaf is not the problem - he always wants to play forward but it's the lack of options in front of him. I love Liam Walsh but part of why he was so effective was the system & supporting cast. We're struggling to get the wing backs, the...

Historically he picks up a lot of niggles & asking him to play 3 games in 6 days straight off the back of injury is too much for anyone.

I'd be terrified defensively with that setup. Hyam, Rose, McFadzean would all be exposed for pace in a back 4 plus you'd lose most of your attacks from wide. I wouldn't mind seeing Sheaf, Hamer & Kelly together though but in more of a 3-5-2 or 3-4-1-1

I don't disagree with that but as I said there are other factors & against superior opposition we can't always be on the front foot. Look at Leicester's gameplan vs Arsenal on Sunday, they played without a recognised striker & literally sat back & defended until bringing Vardy on - Rodgers was...

What I'm picking is that it's absurd to be judging after only 8 games, especially when the quality of opposition has been completely different. Brentford were 17th at this stage last season & ended up missing out on the Premier League by a whisker. Nobody thinks we've been doing well but there...

We should be aiming to finish above them yes, nothing to say we won't though is there? We've only played 8 games... Of course who has played who is relevant. You'd fancy your chances against Wycombe (the only team they'd beaten before tonight) more than against Bournemouth wouldn't you? They...

They had a 60% bigger wage budget than us in 2019 when figures were last released, I'd call that pretty significant. Do you not agree that they've had a much more favourable run of games than us & still struggled?

How is that inexcusable? A) They have a bigger budget than us & substantial Championship experience. B) They've had far easier games so far

Yet people slated Sheaf (our highest with 73%) as constantly giving the ball away & gave him 3/10 whilst saying how good Hamer was. Bizarre.

Utter drivel. But for that one crazy ball, Sheaf was pretty good - between him & Østigård for MotM. To rate him lower than Shipley whilst giving Hamer a 6 is bonkers.

    Match Thread Middlesbrough

See, I think we very nearly got it right. We frustrated them for 80 mins & in fact were growing into the game, just before our subs we were starting to really get a foothold with Hamer & in particular Sheaf starting to dictate. We weren't playing for 0-0, we were playing to nick it late on &...

    Match Thread Middlesbrough

Exactly. Herein lies the problem, so many underestimated the huge step up to the Championship. Most sane fans would accept staying up on goal difference given the gulf in quality & resources. Yes, things need to improve but we still have a chance to do that. Some perspective is needed.
