    Things that annoy you

I have a colleague who looks at his watch whenever we discuss anything to do with time (meetings, visitors, etc). Me: When can we fit that in, Chris? Chris: (looks at watch) Maybe the 29th? Always makes me chuckle (inwardly). He also drives a Tesla.

Doesn't matter how long she takes, i'm guessing she will still have stuff stacked every which way, with a wooden spoon or something to stop the spray arms rotating and you'll have to redo it all in the morning!

    Cricket 2024

Superb innings by Root in the 4th Test today - 106 not out to take England form 112-5 at lunch to 302-7 at the close. He played proper, old-fashioned five-day cricket when we needed it. Shows it can (and should, from time to time) be done. Slowest stand of 50+ since McCullum took over. If he had...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

This thread was going a whole lot better before it descended into playground bickering about individuals' voting habits (which are frankly nobody's business but their own). You have taken it to the same gutter level as the parliamentary numpties we are supposed to be discussing. Please can we...

A bit longer than that, FP - the pandemic preparedness review was conducted under Brown's government and achieved precisely fuck-all, as we have seen in the past 4 years.

Anyone else had this cold, headaches chest infection thing

Thanks Terry! GP has now given her a salbutamol inhaler with a face mask attachment. May help, but he admitted he doesn't know what is going on! One thing that may be a coincidence is that the GP started her on blood pressure medication about the same time the cough started. He says that...

Can't see Robins' history making him popular with their feeble-minded fan-base either!

Anyone else had this cold, headaches chest infection thing

Wife update - the "very strong" antibiotics (clarithromycin), normally used to treat pneumonia, have done fuck-all, despite her being on the highest dose for a week. Unless she has TB or the plague, it ain't bacterial! Her coughing is tiring ME out listening to it; she must be exhausted!

I'd be in favour of fines but not giving them points.

I agree - polling companies rarely seem to use methods which capture the whole population (especially the older, perhaps Tory-biased people) because they focus on online polling. It's like asking us to believe that the views (on pretty much any subject you care to mention) expressed on social...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

I take your point. I don't quite understand why the Tories have given up fielding electable candidates in some of their heartlands. This Bone-lite woman is one case, but another was in the Mid Beds constituency vacated by the lunatic Dorries - they decided to put their weight behind the guy who...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

That was sort of the point i was trying to make. Trust an academic expert in election statistics to put it better than a tired biosafety specialist!!

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Sure, but my point is that the actual Labour vote didn't swing anywhere - it was simply the collapse of the Tory vote. Sure, if the same thing happens at the GE this year, it will be a pasting, but will the inevitably larger GE turnout all vote to the same pattern as yesterday, or are all the...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

So the Tories took a kicking in both by-elections yesterday, with enormous swings to Labour. However ... as has been the case in many of the recent by-elections in this Parliament, the result is not as stunning for Starmer as they are suggesting, in my view: In Wellingborough, the number of...

It's given to infants and adults over 65 on the NHS. She is neither!
