Your Bad Days At A Match

The two I remember most were the midweek Cup Semi at West Ham in 1981. I was just turned 16, not very worldly wise & travelled by train from Rugby. They got a late winner & we left the ground thinking their fans would all be celebrating, but instead we had to run a gauntlet of flying fists and...

    Shipley or Bayliss at CM

Except for his poor tracking back for Sunderland's first goal, Shipley was excellent yesterday. It's only one game though, so deciding he is a better long term option than Bayliss is extremely premature.

Match Thread Sunderland vs. Coventry City Match Thread - Saturday 13th Apr

By my reckoning our record against the 7 teams above us so far is Played 12, Won 7, Draw 3, Lost 2. If only we could have replicated that against the poorer teams in the league!!

What attendances will we get at "shared" home grounds ?

Why would more away fans go to Northampton than Birmingham? Northampton's maximum away capacity is 1,350 while St Andrews could fit up to 6,000 if needed.

What attendances will we get at "shared" home grounds ?

Don't know the maximum capacity feasible if it was Rugby but if it were say 6,000 I think we would pretty much sell that out.

    If we move

Incidentally I remember when the previous move to Northampton came around there was some talk about playing in Hinckley, as their ground was ok by non league standards. I know nothing about the ground, or whether it still exists as I think the club itself went bust but that would fall into an...

    If we move

Yes to Nuneaton, Rugby or St Andrews. Maybe to Alexander Stadium or Walsall. No to anywhere else.

If we do win at Sunderland we will probably follow it up by failing to beat Bradford!

Not sure - don't get the Kelly love in that you & others participate in. What comments do you think I have deleted? He certainly hasn't let us down and has performed to a consistently good level since Doyle's departure, and I have marked him accordingly. He isn't as good as you think he is...

Its a game that has been typical of our season. Dominating the game, with good football, up to he final 3rd with poor decision making & no cutting edge. Burge - 7 not much to do, but one good save Sterling - 7 got forward well with a couple of half decent crosses Davies - 8 good solid game...

    Midfield

Jack Burroughs looks a hell of a prospect. Think today's result has pretty much ended our play off hopes so might be a good time to give him some 1st team experience before the season's out. Along the same line might be worth giving Bremang a run out up front at some point too.

    CWR tonight

If it is Northampton then I would expect the crowds to be bigger this time but an average of 5,000 would be as high as we could probably expect. If that is the case I would rather we play somewhere like Rugby where we would play in packed ground, tight to the pitch, that could prove quite...

New Statement from SISU re. Council

Really think the Trust should have organised candidates to stand in the local elections on a single issue basis. The inevitable poor turnout for such elections means a well organised campaign could easily win council seats. Charlton fans successfully did so in the past, to help push their...

    Fans yesterday

It was desperation stuff. Think we had a 2 goal lead from the first leg & Bobby Gould was so overconfident he started John Gayle up front, and it started to unfold from there.

    Fans yesterday

Your memory is letting you down slightly. I was at this game too & was there with my ex wife! We sat in the stand which wasn't that big granted, but City had half of it, and we also had fans on the terraces. Just looked it up on you tube, and when Phil Babb scores the late goal that puts us...

Match Thread Coventry City vs. Bristol Rovers Match Thread - Sunday 7th Apr

I hope our fans layoff JCH. He is clearly their main man - we only saw little glimpses of his potential, but when he did play well it always seemed it was when he got riled. I know its an unlikely scenario but I think politely applauding him would completely throw him off his game :)

Match Thread Barnsley vs. Coventry City Match Thread - Saturday 30th Mar

Not sure I agree that we have to be more cautious, at home anyway. If we pushed men forward more at home like Barnsley do, then yes there will be the odd game where we get counter attacked and lose because of it, but these are League 1 teams we are playing against, not Man City, and I think that...

Match Thread Barnsley vs. Coventry City Match Thread - Saturday 30th Mar

Certainly agree with the last sentence. They attacked with pace and numbers, it was noticeable how many players they had breaking into the box, whereas we normally have only one person to aim for when we break forward. The way we play is much more suited to playing away and counter attacking. It...
