The reference refers to comparisons in Sport. When Andy Murray won the US the reference was to Fred Perry and not Virginia Wade Conversely Radacanu was referenced to Virginia Wade not Andy Murray Jessica Ennis Hill and KJT are not compared to Daley Thompson

There is normally a differential. It’s the only sport I know where both are compared directly. So they are the first team to achieve back to back and last time the “hurt” of not winning since 1966 has been removed. Women in other sports are referenced to women and vica versa.

It’s ok but to me it’s like a GB mens team winning at bowls. Or actually rugby union, I think it’s the attempt to compare to the men’s game and the refusal to criticise poor games and poor play - makes it all a bit fake to me.
