As well as being pointless in terms of the actual game keeping a player on that has reached that point you're massively increasing the chance of them picking up an injury and missing further games.

At least you get it! I had a flight back from Denmark cancelled by BA. There advice was to sort my own hotel and if I could find a more suitable non-BA flight to book that and claim compensation. So I did exactly that and BA would only pay the £220 delayed / cancelled flight compensation...
