We would have been better off with Robins

Yes, of course. Because I think Robins isn't a shit manager, I can't possibly think Lampard is good also 😅

We would have been better off with Robins

Yeah, we have had a tough time more recently with the injuries racking up. But under Lampard we won 9 in 10 against teams like Preston, Swansea, Bristol, who we normally never beat. We ground out particularly ugly wins against QPR and Portsmouth in the sort of game we never used to win. Under...

We would have been better off with Robins

I think if you put on the biggest Mark Robins' hat, he could have turned it around like he always did, and got us to finish 5th. I don't think he would have got the consistency against mediocre teams to get the 9 wins out of 10 that Lampard got. But he also wouldn't have had the poor 5/6 games...

    Lampard

Agreed, can add Middlesbrough away to that list though. We've won a lot of the other games either ugly or luckily.

    Frank Lampard in Bedworth

Ah yeah, I think you're right. Think it was after the playoff final. He'll be on decent money then. Unless relegated side or newly promoted sign him as back up, he'll unlikely get a better offer elsewhere after the season he's had.

    Frank Lampard in Bedworth

Yeah, I think that could be the worst case scenario - we try and sell him but he doesn't want to go, so he runs his contract down. Although I think he might still be on his original contract with us, so maybe not on the sort of wage he should now be on. But I guess if he really wants to stay...

    Frank Lampard in Bedworth

Did not know about the option, that changes the dynamic slightly in our favour. But still, with his age and injury record, if we can get a reasonable sum we should probably offload him - with the benefit of hindsight, we should have sold him last summer, we won't be able to get anywhere near...

    Frank Lampard in Bedworth

Yeah, he's definitely gone down in value since last summer. But it may still be the last chance age-wise to get a reasonable return for him. Last summer we would have been holding out for between the 8m - 12m - if there's any truth in the rumours. This summer we'd probably be hoping to get...

    Frank Lampard in Bedworth

Sheaf is almost certainly going to be sold. He'll be in the last year of his contract, and was rumoured to be wanting to leave last summer. With his injury record this season, we probably can't even afford to offer him a decent contract, he's 27, so we'll try to get as much as we can for him.

Wasn't it Waghorn? I only know because he scored so few goals for us I can remember them all 😅 Edited - my mistake, I'm thinking of the penalty and win Vs Sheffield United

My fear too, they do owe us one. And typically they'll finally do it in a massive game 😫

    Championship thread 24/25!

On paper, if we can beat Sunderland and somehow end up with Bristol or Middlesbrough in the final, it's the only way I can see us gaining promotion. We'd still be the underdogs, but I favour Bristol to beat Burnley/Leeds/Sheffield more than us, and we'd have A chance against them at Wembley...

    Championship thread 24/25!

IF we win tomorrow, they're 5 points off with 5 games left. 2 teams would have to bottle it, otherwise they'd have to win 4 and draw 1 to have any chance. We need to do the business tomorrow night though...

    Championship thread 24/25!

If Bristol win and we win tomorrow, that pretty much puts WBA out of our reach at 5 points off us - if we throw that away we aren't making it anyway. If they draw, it keeps it tight...just depends if we think Bristol are going to continue winning.

    When did it die out/disappear?

I think I can do one slightly more recent, away at Stevenage when we had McGoldrick. It's also the last time I can remember absolutely terrorising the opposition goalkeeper all half, like we used to in the West End, probably due to how close that away end is to the pitch and feels like 1k of...

    Final 6

I think 3 wins and a draw would just about do it given everyones' fixtures, on the basis that we avoid defeat Vs WBA, and Bristol don't consistently keep winning, given their tough fixtures. If we can get them before the Middlesbrough game them we will know what we need out of that game. It...

Match Thread Sheffield United - Coventry City Match Thread - Friday 28th Mar

The difference with Vik is clear, he went to a top European side, playing European football, with potential to win trophies (and with him, they did - won the league) and play in the Champions League. It was a clear and obvious step up. Also, he's gone to the right place to prove himself and...

    Aidy Boothroyd

Injuries to key players for his system was what did it for him, he built a side to play a certain way and (whether you liked it or not) it was working and getting consistent results here for the first time in a long time. Ben Turner and Lee Carsley getting injured long term weakened the spine...
