What the hell are the Woodcraft Folk? Are they the paramilitary wing of the Brownies?

    Presumed consent

Yes we're all aware of that but the problem is that not enough people do so that's why we're discussing presumed consent.

    But you can opt out?

I could never be a choir boy as I was a conscientious objector.

    Presumed consent

Skybluepete, why are you uncomfortable with presumed consent?

    Presumed consent

Yes you're right Otis, there's nothing like a good dose of religious dogma to trump human compassion.

    Presumed consent

There are arguments about whether this will make a difference to organ donation. Can't understand it myself why folk don't donate. Give others a chance to live. If I could I would stipulate donating to consenters and not to opt-outers. Why should you receive if you are not prepared to give? And...

    Love snow

Never once had a day off school because of snow (Bell Green Primary, Foxford Comp) - unheard of to close in my day! Mind you, everyone walked to school then. It was always an opportunity to make fantastic ice slides on hard surfaces and do a 'granny'

    First ever record you bought?

My Sweet Lord, George Harrison - used to snog my girlfriend to this all the way through without coming up for air. Didn't realise at the time it was a religious song!

    Scouts

Anybody in the scouts as a kid? For a while I was in the Coventry 7th troop. Our scout hall was in Partridge Croft off Dudley Street. Most of us kids were from the Bell Green area and used to turn up Thursday nights pay our subs and have great fun playing the most terrifying games. This was an...

    Coventry, City of Culture 2021

Agree about the elevated ring road but maybe problems should be seen as opportunities and I've always thought what a great circuit for competition racing. A prestigious cycling event (which echoes the city's heritage) - an annual event easily followed by helicopters as not lost in streets like...

    Coventry, City of Culture 2021

Must admit this made me chuckle a bit Otis, as pretty much anywhere in England is no more than 75 miles from the sea and Cov must be not too far from this distance. You don't work in advertising by any chance? I haven't really seen the city centre for many years but am planning a nostalgia trip...

    Coventry, City of Culture 2021

Excellent - haven't lived there for years but the city I was brought up in. Hope it makes the most of its motor and bike heritage as most of my friends are just not aware of this. We should be proud of this Motown heritage and bit worried it's going to be all about diversity and yooth (nothing...

What's your favorite Christmas song/pice of music

Drinking white wine in the sun by Tim Minchin always brings a tear to the eye at the ending Carol of the Bells - love the way it builds In the bleak midwinter - my favourite atmospheric carol

    annoyed that I don't understand...

I suppose I should pay attention to the great philosopher, Clint Eastwood who said that a man's got to know his limitations. I do like a challenge though and trying to understand difficult things like relativity, why tea tastes better if somebody else makes it, why Mrs Brown's Boys is prime...
