And scupper any CCFC rescue plan too?

Wasps going into admin & the impact on CCFC

Never really got why Gilbert was perceived by so many to be some kind of enemy agent tbh. The only time he got me angry was when he announced there was going to be some exciting news regarding the Ricoh saga, got us all speculating about billionaires, and a few days later it turned out to be...

I hope people aren't over-interpreting the statement of cooperation between CCC and CCFC. Very welcome and refreshing, but to me it just looks like a common sense practical approach to ensure that matches can go ahead in the immediate future. I don't read anything into it about the wider issue...

Wasps going into admin & the impact on CCFC

If the purpose of this is some kind of short-term deal to protect the interests of HMRC or to keep the stadium operational, it’s questionable but understandable. If it’s somehow necessary to reduce the Council’s financial losses (bonds?) it makes the whole monumental cockup even worse. If it...

Yes it was pretty bizarre. Given the prevailing rates at the time, 6.5% seemed way over what they needed to offer, and was in itself a warning sign as you say. If (as it seems) they’d even got players promoting those bonds to people it’s sad tbh.

' even the most moderate and reflective of locals' Who can he possibly be referring to? Surely we are all true believers in the creed, or Wasps collaborators :D

FFS what do you mean he’s changed his tune? OSB58 is just telling it as he sees it, as he’s done for years and we’ve all benefitted from his specialist knowledge. You seem to be implying he’s had some sort of agenda, but I don’t think that’s ever been the case. He analyses the finances and calls...

Are we better off because Wasps have gone bump?

Unless somehow they have got into an arrangement with another bidder, I can’t imagine Sisu being able to buy the Arena. Whoever does so, I’ve got a nagging fear that Joy will dig her heels in, refuse to sell and keep us on life support for another few years, whilst threatening to build another...

Fair enough, I’ve got no axe to grind on this, and I’m definitely not going to go into a load of old Council reports about all the figures :D

Wasps going into admin & the impact on CCFC

Surely he wouldn't dictate that kind of strategy to Joy, even if her involvement was 'hands off' at the start?

Even the hugely scaled-down version of Richardson's plans cost £110m to develop. Is that how much the Swansea ground cost (I genuinely don’t know, but suspect only a small fraction)? There’s a difference between a realistic stadium and a vanity project built on contaminated land. I agree (and it...

Wasps going into admin & the impact on CCFC

Interesting that, and not much sign of stupidity or a vendetta against CCFC in the Council's explanation. Could be just spin I guess, but looks more like the rent and the lease were unfortunate consequences of a grossly over-ambitious development that the club couldn't afford, and could only...

‘Arena 2000 started as Chairman Bryan Richardson’s dream’ ‘In a single stroke, Coventry City Football Club will be transformed into the envy of England’ ‘The Arena will be a technical marvel’ ‘Crowds of 40,000 will be able to watch football matches and other events. Another 7,000 will be housed...

Wasps going into admin & the impact on CCFC

Wasn’t the whole project doomed to be forever burdened with debt when the development cost was drastically higher than the complex was (and is) worth? Was the initial concept of a stadium the Council’s project or CCFC’s, and whose thinking was at fault? I recall Bryan Richardson boasting that it...

Why was it a ‘silly debt’ (genuine question)?

Wasps going into admin & the impact on CCFC

Presumably they did when they were in west London, but if so a decade on an industrial estate on the other side of Wycombe about 30 miles away must surely have killed it, which explains the feeble opposition to the Coventry move. With Wasps it seems more like brand loyalty than a club rooted in...
