The Man City keeper last night was back in his own net when he made a save last night and got praised for it. Not rating Wilson is fine. But people really shouldn't be scapegoating him for 3 goals that were down to a combination of decent play by Preston and mistakes by other players.

Leaving aside the wider question of whether Wilson or Collins are good enough for our ambitions, the cross for the first goal isn't a harmless floaty ball of the type we tend to put in. It's whipped in hard but has a looping trajectory that would put doubt into most keepers' minds.

We're at cross-purposes. I'm just cautioning against the notion on here that because Saka is on his feet we can diagnose 'nothing broken' or 'bruised coccyx'. I didn't say bed rest is never beneficial, just that it isn't always appropriate, even for significant injuries.

It's a ball that some keepers would have claimed, but it's hardly 'simple' because rather than having a flat trajectory it's coming down with ice on. And then the header itself is unstoppable, because it bullets into the top corner. Wilson gets no credit for last night but there were failings...

There must have been about a tenth of a second between the Preston player missing the ball and it coming off Thomas. How's Wilson supposed to 'communicate' with him in that time? Not saying he played well, but he stood little chance with any of the goals.

So for the first Wilson should have told Thomas to head the ball, for the second he should have told Dasilva to kick the ball, and for the third he should have told Thomas not to stick it in his own net?

So why focus on it? Completely inappropriate.

Yep, Simms was about the only positive from tonight's game. I think he showed he can be a really good centre forward for us.
