L they have. But we were horrendous Tuesday night. However the reaction we got today was tremendous. Lampard got it right today

Goes to show what a let down Tuesday night was - we’d only be 7 points off these if we dispatched Derby.. I’d have fancied us to overthrow that

It’s not panic. It’s more looking over the 11 games, we’re more open with the 4-3-3 than we were with 3-5-2. we didn’t look like scoring last night, which happens. If you don’t - you need to try and not concede, with 4-3-3 we’ve been conceding for fun

Possibly Torp? I think we’re gonna have to revert to the flat 3-5-2. It wasn’t pretty but we stopped leaking goals, and given our next 3 games this is an urgency

We were scoring goals and not conceding with at the back. Someone put a graph up earlier that suggests that we’re creating less and it coincides with the change in formation. Sakamoto has played in the 3-4-2-1. EMC can still play that role. They need to adapt

No it doesn’t - it’s a team sport. I’m not saying there isn’t a role for them. But you play the side that is best equipped to not concede. we’re currently in a position where we have to score 2 just to get a draw. we were the same earlier in the season when we had 4 at the back. it’s a...

I mean we’ve conceded 6 goals in our last 3 games, whereas all 4 clean sheets kept in the last 11 league games were a variation of 3-5-2 or 3-4-2-1. the clean sheets were against Blackburn, Bristol, QPR who are all around us and Swansea. whilst the last 3 games have been against Oxford, Stoke...

We may have too - we’ve been at our most solid when playing 3CBs and 2 up top accommodating them has led to a formation that is making us leak goals for fun. Conceding 2 a game is not sustainable

We played 3-4-2-1 against QPR and kept a clean sheet, or like the Swansea game you go 5-3-2 you go flat 3 across the midfield - Eccles/Torp/Grimes. it may be time to revisit Simms and BTA - BTA may be shit but he did a lot of the donkey work that made Simms more effective

Not necessarily - it kind of operates as a 3-4–3/ 5-4-1 hybrid. alternatively you could play Eccles/Torp/Grimes, then go Wright and Simms up top. It loses the support between ST and Midfield but it’s a much more solid middle of the park

We do tend to have one of these moments every season. Remember that Lincoln game aswell where they beat us 4-2 at the CBS, right bizarre game where that Rhead caused us havoc

Interesting that - do we know roughly where we switched to 4 at the back. I’d definitely argue we were playing 5 at the back when it peaked on that graph

It’ll be Stoke. Cardiff are like hull, they’ll go on a streaky run now and then

Match Thread Derby County - Coventry City Match Thread - Tuesday 11th Mar

We’ve been lucky the last 3/4 games. This is the kick up the arse we hopefully need - conceding 2 goals against Oxford, Stoke and these is woeful. the worst thing is - all 6 goals were avoidable and our own fault. we also seem to drop our heads when we go behind. When did we last come from...
