We've made it down to the blue Danube now, at Donauwörth on the Romantische Straße. Quite how Beck thought it was blue when he described it as such in his poem - or Strauss' waltz too, later - I have no idea. Brown. Decidedly brown. Donauwörth, however, is quite beautiful, and well worth a look...

I was browsing that yesterday. He really can't help himself. Terminally deluded Treacletown twat.

Just touring mate. Life's one long holiday since retiring 13 years ago 😉 3500 miles through France and Spain last autumn, so we thought it about time! Was hoping for slightly more settled weather, but it should improve. Full blue skies at the mo though, and the river is sparkling in front of me...

Bloody cold last night in Ingelheim (on the Rheingau, near Mainz). Pyjamas, socks, and fleece top on in bed. Nearly resorted to a hot water bottle! Much colder than the previous three nights in Bernkastel/Mosel. Slightly warmer tonight here just east of Heidelberg on the Neckar river, plus we're...

    Pub's now and then.

Thinking about it, we had our papers from the newsy up the top of Hall Green Road hill, opposite the Building Society. I guess you delivered from the one opposite the Manor House terminus?

    Pub's now and then.

No. 134. Near the top end of the new (well, 1956) bit, on the right (obvs!). Whereabouts did Bob lodge? I don't recall that at all. Talking mid-sixties presumably?

All true! Including my dad, an absolutely top-notch welder.

20a. It was a deviation down Windmill Rd off the 20 Longford and Bedworth route. Terminus was by the side of the Manor Guildhouse by Aldermans Green Road a few yards up from the Green Man. I used to use it regularly, or the 21 Lentons Lane/Aldermans Green opposite the GM, whichever turned up first.

It was cracking. My cousin's son married the daughter of the owners too (Andrie). Never got free chips though 😉

I remember Greeny (and was it Denis Mortimer? Not sure) trying a donkey kick in a reserves game, maybe the same week as the Carr/Hunt effort - before it wa banned anyway. He missed!

Thought it was just me imagining the 999 thing on the CET scoreboard! Was it really as early as '64? Blimey. I was only eleven if that's the case. Was stood on the Sky Blue terrace, presumably with my dad. If asked, I'd have thought it a bit later. Live and learn!

Brandon Oak? Mitch Shirra once lent me some tools and a solderless nipple(!) when I broke my Triumph 500's front brake cable outside the farm he was lodging at just outside Southam when he first came over from Oz. He had a bit of a rep as being arrogant. I'd disagree based on that.

Yep. Me too. Either Cov or City, then Brandon after a chippy tea from Wolston, calling in at my cousin's house over the road from there (the old Post Office and Bakery).

We lived backing onto the Green Man, on Pearson Avenue. Could see the back garden of the pub from mum & Dad's bedroom window. All gone now. Just a block of flats 😪

Green Man, Hall Green Rd, in the early seventies. Haven't been in a pub for three years now.
