We need to relax, we have a second chance on Tuesday. If form was everything, the tie would be done and dusted in our favour. Thankfully, Lampard’s post-match analysis was v level-headed. As well as Sunderland defended, they know the game didn’t go down that well and relied on luck to come away...

    Evening form

Sunderland’s home, away and head-to-head against us was poor… they still overcome that and there’s no reason that we can’t. We’ve won away at Sunderland a few times and they’ll be mindful of that and they have to deal with that whilst having the pressure of maintaining a lead. It’s the first...

    Evening form

Both Notts County and Boro were Friday nights! Some of the defeatism on here is a little bit much to be honest. If I was a gambling man crunching numbers, you’d back Sunderland to get over the line but this KO football over 2 legs and weird things happen.

We came close a few times where a kind bounce of the ball leads to a material chance. It’s a new game, we’ve put 6 goals past this Sunderland defence this year and confident we can put more past them on Tuesday.

Our away record in the playoffs is good. The second legs (that we’ve won) have all been midweek iirc?

We don’t necessarily have to win by 2. We can always force extra time and penalties. Lampard played some decent mind games post-match by sowing the seed of doubt for how Sunderland will approach the next leg. Do they keep with the same approach or do they try to kick on and extend the lead...

Transfer Rumour 25/26 Summer Transfer Window

No to Liam Walsh. He doesn’t actually improve us and at 27, isn’t in the bracket of a development player. Plenty of better players out there and 3-4 CMs in our squad better than him.

Did this actually happen and was a serious post all along?! 😂

I hope it does go the same way as last night. On another night we break the dead lock and do not gift them two goals. I’ve seen plenty of talk about how their manager engineered a tactical masterclass… That’s a stretch. Sunderland defended well and we’ve made two errors that lead to two goals.

    Errors Leading To Goals

What happens if Dovin makes a recovery by Dec-Jan and gets injured again outside the transfer window? The club needs to accept that we just need to sign a GK irrespective of what league we’re in next season.

3 players challenged Haji for the ball for Rudoni’s goal. There’s been several goals this season where defenders gravitate around Simms too e.g. Paterson’s goal v Pompey.

    Errors Leading To Goals

GK is a priority area in the summer. Dovin is class but if his recovery takes longer than planned, we can’t be having Wilson or Collins in goal for a lengthened period of time.

Unfortunately, those dodgy passes from MVE are not as uncharacteristic as you’d think. There have been several occasions where he does these passes to no one and it invites pressure. Whilst it’s only lead to 2 goals in recent memory (Plymouth and last night), it’s something that needs to be...

    Team for tuesday

CBs double up on him and Sunderland’s CBs were noticeably wider apart as opposed to teams we’ve played in more recent weeks. Even for Rudoni’s goal, Wright occupied 3 Sunderland players to let Rudoni bullet the header in. Start the team thae same team that battered Sunderland 3-0 at home.

Match Thread Coventry v Sunderland Championship Playoff 1st Leg Friday 9th May

At this stage of the season, form does go out the window. Both of Sunderland’s goal scorers last night hadn’t scored in months and had lost 6 of the last 7 games with barely any goals scored. On another night, the ball perhaps falls to us more kindly in 2-3 positions and we score a couple of...

He and Vik had some fantastic individual moments that dragged us through games. The tactical framework was laid by Robins. If we made as many basic defensive errors in that season as we have this year, we’d have been a midtable team. If you don’t concede a goal over 2 legs, in most cases, you’re...

How can you look at our results and conclude we’ve relied on individual magic. It’s like saying Robins relied on Hamer and Vik to just ‘do something’ back in 22/23… No would hold Robins to that double standard. Big players win you matches at all levels.

Context is everything, their form at home was heavily weighted with the first half of the season. Ours was hampered by the poor home record under Robins. Poor defending and goalkeeping for both goals tonight and the usual scapegoat didn’t play. MVE takes so many unnecessary risks with his back...

They’ve defended well, but haven’t offered anything going forward. Which is concerning given their more recent form in terms of shots on target, chances created and most importantly, goals. They do not have the home record to necessarily be happy with a draw going into Tuesday.
