He was a striker but had recently become (and remains) a holding midfielder. Although I kinda think his interpretation of "holding" is "stand here in the middle 'cos I don't know what the hell I'm meant to be doing"!

We'd be better off with Phil Daniels if his showings last season are anything to go by.

He was our best player last two games of last season. OK he wasn't available for the rest of the season, granted, but I was hoping for a Baker-type transformation. He's certainly good enough to deliver at this level.
