    Transfer Rumour #CARLBAKERDAY

Baker was in the lounges before the game. Said the Indian season finishes in March unless they get into their version of the play offs which go on until May. Said he'd like to come back here after India.

The period between Jimmy Hill and Gordon Milne....

You're right that the club allowed too many contracts to run down, but as I remember it the exodus was caused by the sacking of Dave Sexton and his replacement by Bobby Gould. The players wanted Sexton to stay, so when he went, so did many of them. On the other side of the equation Gould had to...

    Rubbish Coventry City managers.....

Yep, we were at Villa Park on Boxing Day - the game that Graham Oakey got injured in. Imagine current Premier League managers if they had to play two games in two days!

    Rubbish Coventry City managers.....

Yes, some of the football in 77/78 was exhilarating. Some great games - Man City 4-2, Chelsea 5-1, Wolves 4-0, QPR 4-1, Birmingham 4-0 and of course Norwich 5-4 (which wasn't on bloody Boxing Day!!!).

    Rubbish Coventry City managers.....

Milne got very close to getting us into Europe - if Arsenal had beaten Ipswich in the '78 FA Cup Final, we'd have been in the UEFA Cup. As Ipswich won, they went into the Cup Winners' Cup and Arsenal took "our" place in the UEFA Cup.

Was this the first Suday game ?

As I recall, there had been Sunday games before but this was the first Sunday game between two top division teams (even though it was a Cup game). You're right about the 4-4 Torch. I remember that game as much for how bloody cold it was as for the 8 goals. I think it was just after we bought...

Match Thread Scunthorpe v Coventry Match Thread - Sunday 30th Apr

He came over to the tunnel side of the ground - maybe family over there? Spent a fair bit of time in front of us chatting to some fans near the front. was on the pitch for a long time after the final whistle.

    Steve Hunt

IIRC I saw his debut goal in a 2-0 win at the old Baseball Ground. I think that was also the first outing for the famous chocolate brown kit.

    Beware. Speculation thread.

. Usually for a solicitor to offer a no win, no fee deal, they'd want to judge the chance of success at 60%+. Given SISU's track record in court cases, that might be a tricky hurdle to leap. Even if they got that kind of deal, they'd still be on the hook for the other side's costs if they lost...

ON THIS DAY: Friday 6th January 1950 - Willie Carr was born in Glasgow.

A friend of mine was on the ground staff at Highfield Road in the 60's. He hoped he was going to make the grade until one day a scrawny red haired 12 or 13 year old turned up and ran rings round everybody. It was obvious that he was in a different class to the rest of them. That was Willie Carr.

    Name this player..........

I remember him being out for quite a while due to "domestic" injury and thought it happened as ISB described in relation to Bryan King - but this is over 40 years ago so.........

    Name this player..........

I think that the garage door injury was Wilf Smith.

    Name this player..........

Wasn't that in the last minute in a relegation battle against Burnley (?). As I recall they scored from the free kick to get a 2-1 win. And as I further recall, the Star Soccer slow-mo showed that he hadn't handled outside the area!
