"The irony of us clapping NHS workers on the frontline and not giving them the protection to their their jobs properly is a scandal, and was preventable". Some scathing words from Richard Horton, Editor of the Lancet. While flag waving gimps were pushing for Big Ben to bong on January 31st, we...

    Potentially does not bode well

Well yes it is no secret that they seem to have a lot of money for the level they are at, and the manager admits as much in his interviews. But they've got some decent players whose talent would be wasted with another season in the Midland Football League.

    Potentially does not bode well

I get the sentiment and that the initial idea behind Cov United was to benefit from City's demise by playing at the Higgs and whatnot but as a neutral, I doubt many Cov United supporters actively wish bad on the City.

    Potentially does not bode well

This is a real shame for Coventry United. I know a few players and for them promotion would have meant playing at a higher standard, more chance of getting spotting by a pro club etc, especially the younger players. So football even at non league level should definitely not be considered as...

Agreed, I was just using sportsdirect as a hyperbole. I don't have any problem with sportsdirect being open and in existence in normal circumstances, but they're putting profits before wellbeing when they're clearly not an essential service. Which is why I'm annoyed at such places trying to...

This 'essential worker thing' is going to really cause these stubborn frauds who make a living out of people's misery to question themselves. Sportsdirect being a case in point, but plenty of people who have pointless jobs resulting from unfettered capitalism will try and stick up for themselves...

NHS and other key workers are being treated like cannon fodder. Getting paid their usual fuck all rates for putting themselves at risk while big bucks Ben who makes a living from sucking all of the money out of the system through his 'business consulting' job gets his £2.5k a month for sitting...

When it suits them they will be i.e. when there is a crisis such as this. By the looks of things, it seems like few are behaving in a socially conservative manner too.

'Economically liberal, socially conservative' with a small C is a pretty apt phrase at this time that I believe a lot of people confide in.

That's the problem when people are stubborn - they will come up will all sorts of ways to justify thinking with their feet

If one were to take the phrase 'the science changed', then regardess of context, it is just a dumb statement because science by definition does not 'change' (although we may discover more of it). Whereas something such as 'the modelling changed' would have been accurate as predictions are not...

What does everyone feel about the distortion of incentives that yesterday's announcement might create? I feel similar to this guy - fully support the guaranteeing of incomes in the private sector but there needs to be even more given to those going on their and putting themselves on the line.

Teachers too :) But yes, it will quickly be realised among the more rational of us (i.e. not Grendel) that the salary paid to someone is no reflection of their self-worth - indeed by the key worker logic, there is an inverse relationship between salary paid and the criticalness of their work...

    Supermarket shortages

Definitely not something to be proud of. But also seeing the comments of all these middle aged creeps - they pounce on these kind of posts like vultures as a way of promoting their white supremacist agenda rather than criticising the overcharging.

I now see what you mean by 42 out of a million. There are 67 million people in the UK so if you multiply the rate per million (42) by the 'number of millions' (67) you get 2814, which is close to the current number of overall 'positive' detections, at around 3300. That doesn't reveal too much...
