    That showroom belonged to the Aston brothers, they built it with their bare hands with rubble salvaged from the Blitz. They later owned showrooms on both sides of Lower Ford Street, the bottom of Hearsall Lane and this one opposite Astley's: Brandish was in Whitefriars Street. :)

    No, you're mistaken Houch. Far Gosford Street begins where the river passes under the road where a gate in the city wall used to be. Gosford Street ends where Astley's warehouse begins. :)

    Lucky to have their own toilet! Many of my friends lived in the courtyards of Coventry and had to share an outside toilet with several other families. The kitchen sink emptied into a gulley in the courtyard and in summer it stank beyond belief.

    I've no idea why this Marty Wilde suddenly song popped back into my head after 53 years? It was played a lot on the radio at the time but was only ever a big hit in Dutch-speaking countries, possibly assisted by the Dutch-language service of Radio Luxembourg.
