Imo, teams easily play through our midfield and I don’t think either Eccles or Sheaf are bad midfielders defensively. Which therefore, suggests something fundamentally defective with our tactical instructions/approach.

Burnley’s defence is the best in division for a reason. In fact, their defensive record is the best ever in the Championship at this stage of the season.

    Frank Lampard Rumours

I was watching the game with a Burnley fan and he was slightly impressed with us. His dad who was at the game rated MVE and Simms of all players. It’s been a tough run to be fair. Luton, Derby, Boro, Sunderland, Sheff U and Burnley is a run most teams would come away with less points than our 8...

Probably him or Kitching at LB in the long run and there’s a decent bit of balance there ‘in theory’. The big concern I’d have is their pace v wingers.

Assuming a manager is announced tomorrow, that only leaves 2 days for a new manager to take the team so it’s not particularly far fetched for Rhys Carr to have 1 more match. Anything past this weekend and we’re starting to get a bit concerned to be honest.

What worries me about Doug King

It should be. It was close last season and the only players we’ve lost are COH and Palmer. Looking at their statistical outputs this season, we’re not missing much! How did a back 5 of Collins, MVE, Thomas, Kitching and Bidwell go from conceding next to 0 goals in 10-12 games to now leaking an...

    Frank Lampard Rumours

I genuinely believe we’re only 3/4 players off being a top side in this division. Get a top end CB to shore up the defence, a midfielder who can drive the ball in midfield and a better LB and that sorts out a lot of our issues.

    Frank Lampard Rumours

Harsh. The defence conceded the 5th or 6th least goals last season and when Robins first switched to 4-2-3-1 the defence looked like our strongest asset. Instinctually, this points to a fundamental tactical/instruction problem. I do not believe these players are bad.

    Defence

In fairness, he was dropped due to a ‘freak accident’ and Collins didn’t do badly in the games he filled in. Burnley’s first goal looked like a great move at the first viewing. Replays showed that the ball went through Collins’ wrist. It’s just not good enough. It’s not Collins fault per se...

Which isn’t sustainable in the long run. You build from the back first and foremost, if you don’t concede, you cannot lose.

    "Underlying numbers"

100% - we’ve conceded the first goal in 11 of our 17 games this season. Given the generic statistic of the first scoring team is most likely to win, it’s no surprise we are where we are in the league. To compound everything, in 9 games this season we’ve conceded 2 or more goals. It’s embarrassing.

Add tonight’s game to the list. Two avoidable goals and we’ve lost 2-0.

A stat my flatmate told me is that he’s not missed an open play goal since his last home game in September which is about 5-6 home games. Scott Parker will probably be good enough to get them up but isn’t good enough to keep them up imo.

First game I’ve missed this season and it’s been an interesting perspective watching it on TV as opposed to being at the game. We look good and could see us nicking this! Bragging rights are at stake here as I’m watching the game with my Burnley supporting flatmate!

    CCFC announcement today

Cardiff have been looking for a new manager since September. Makes our 3 weeks of looking for a manager seem like nothing. These things don’t just happen overnight. By all accounts we didn’t even begin the process of hiring a manager until after King’s conference so that process has actually...

    "Underlying numbers"

It’s a concern if we’re conceding a lot more goals than our xGA suggests because it almost confirms the eye test that we concede many soft goals. Which will be down to a combination of individual errors (Rudoni v Derby) or positional/tactical errors such as Sheff U’s 1st goal at the weekend...

    Frank Lampard Rumours

It is nonsense. These things don’t just happen overnight. The new manager will want to get things in place before starting too. 3 weeks to interview candidates and negotiate is not a long time. To use Ten Haag as an example again, it’s almost definitely the case that Man U were in talks with...
