Last season, we lost all our 6 pointers home and away. We’ve lost a few tough away games and all of a sudden it’s a collapse. It’s not. In our last 6 home games, we’re still 4th in the table on home form where we’ve scored in every game and kept clean sheets v WBA, Sunderland and Pompey...

Unpopular opinion but I’m confident Simms will do well next season. If not, Wright needs to start more games upfront if Simms isn’t up to it and you put out and out wingers around Wright. Sakamoto and EMC have 9 goals between them in 70 games and that isn’t good enough and I’m surprised to see...

The wide areas is where we need the biggest upgrade imo. There’s no depth for MVE, the options ant LB could be improved on and we have 2 contracted wingers for next season. I want to see our wingers take fullbacks on and see a lot more chances created like EMC’s assist v Hull. Too often the...

First and foremost, Lampard and his staff will see it as a failure and so will his boss, Doug King. The injuries and the slow start is obviously a mitigation but all things considered, we did the hard bit of pulling ourselves the table. So everyone should be disappointed if we don’t make the...

I have a general concern that we‘re not creating particularly great chances for any of our strikers. Since Haji has come back, how many of his goals have been good ‘strikers’ goals in the box that we’ve created for him? Most have been exceptional individual efforts or rebounds. He has missed...

Unless the sport we are watching is basketball, then no it’s not a foul or a red card. Was the contact sufficient to bring player down? No, you have to slow cameras down for the faintest bit of contact to be seen.

Not refereeing decisions? We certainly rode our luck when it came to scoring last minute winners and so on but these are things where you ‘make’ your own luck. Refereeing decisions aren’t neatly in that category.

Things have gone against us. At Plymouth, their hero of the day should’ve been red carded twice and against Luton, JDS was red carded when he clearly wasn’t the last man stopping a ‘clear’ goal scoring opportunity. Decisions like that change the outcome of games.

All surprisingly difficult games given the form table. Hull being the exception and a game we should have won. It is what it is. Failure to pick up points v Plymouth and Luton was not ideal but Boro was always the must-win the tie of the remaining 3 games.

    Astonishing (potential) stat

It’s not a poor league though, is it? It’s highly competitive and the cliche that anyone can beat anyone on their day is true.

Exactly and even Sunderland have tailed off massively since their rapid start. In fact, I’ll put a cheeky 5-10a on 5th place (hopefully us) beating them over the two legs in the playoffs.

Draws are overrated by many football fans. If we won 23 and lost 23, you’d have 69 points whereas 0-46-0 would only be 46 points. The former is playoff form, the other is relegation. So you could, in theory, get relegated if you went the whole season undefeated.

Since Lampard has come in, we’ve been operating at Top 4 level. So to not make the Top 6 would be a failure by any fair metric. We’ve won more games than any of the teams outside the Top 4. Realistically, a draw will get us over the line on Saturday unless 1 of the Top 3 loses at home, one of...

He needs to be, it’s been apparent since late February that we had played our way into contention. Every team in this league has form that ebbs and flows. 50 points this season doesn’t guarantee survival and that’s pretty unheard of. Teams like Pompey and Plymouth have beaten top 3 teams at...

Last season is irrelevant. Going into the last game of the season, we’re in pole position to finish 6th place. We are much more consistent than Boro and we’re at home where we’ve been faultless under Lampard. That’s something you can’t asterix on. If we miss out on the playoffs, the season...

In that 10 game stretch, most of our games were at home. Our form has ‘dropped off’ in line with more away games. You know probably know this and don’t care because it gives you chance to have digs at Lampard - who you never truly accepted. Most teams will have a stronger home record and it...

Full of bad cliches here. Are Boro going into the match with momentum? No. Millwall are, but unfortunately they’re playing a team who is in better form and a team who are yet to lose at home. Likewise, Blackburn need to win away v Sheff U. Barring significant upsets, it’s a shootout between...

    Revenue

We’ll see how ‘Championship ready’ that team is. Plymouth managed 101 points they went up and even teams like Pompey and Derby get 90+ points only to struggle this season. The Championship isn’t for the faint hearted and Ipswich spent several seasons getting their team up to scratch. To the...

Well, if Birmingham want to spend £15m on the likes of Stansfield, they can have more revenue than us and still spaff it up the wall.

He scored 19 goals last season and turned up in a big way back in Feb. I wouldn’t give up on him having a good season next year.
