Grimes upgrade required

We're missing someone who can play the Maddison role.
Knits everything together in an advanced midfield position, maintains possession and pulls the whole team further forward so that we spend longer periods in the danger areas, plays little killer passes.
It's clearly not Grimes and I seriously doubt it's Hamer.
Have you a spare £50m to buy this player?

Or Doug could put his hand in his pocket and buy some proper Premier League players instead of prospects and has beens.
The transfer window is closed until January. It'll be too late by then in all probability.

We can discuss the pros and cons of our new recruits as much as we like, but until January we have to work with what we've got. Frank has simply got to find a way to make this group of 25 players more effective.

I doubt that there is going to be much money available in January anyway. And it is very hard to make season-changing signings at that time of the year. There are exceptions (Grimes himself was one) but not so many.

Isn't that supposed to be Rudoni?

he’s being way too loyal

I’d like to see Torp play in there personally give him a run
Torp has more about him to effect a game at this level than Grimes does.

The lack of opportunities given to Torp is astounding. At this level dead ball delivery is key and I think he offers far more than backwards Grimes.

I’ve heard that Onyenka’s legs have gone but for me he has to go straight in and Grimes out. What will it take for Torp and Hamer to get a proper start?! I think Yirenki has a lot of potential but he’s been shit in the here and now so I’d bomb him out of the team too.

At this level Grimes is just a Sammy Clingan facelift with the same crap engine.

Should be Onyeka and Yirenkyi with Torp getting 30 in the 2nd half. Grimes plays when we are winning comfortably or dominating possession. So, not very often.

And I don’t give a fuck how unfit the wingers are, we need pace there to trouble teams at this level, and the new signings have to play and rotate with Saka. BTA 4th choice, EMC 5th. Taking 10 passes to go backwards from midfield and eventually work the ball wide before lumping crosses into the box to a 19 year old lone striker is not how you counter attack.

People forget how effective Torp was at times last season, especially in that August - November run. He’s a properly class midfielder on his day. 17 goal contributions (10G, 7A) in 39 games.

The fact that he’s barely had a look in, whilst others have underperformed, has been such a failure on Lampard’s part.

Yesterday was awful. Problems stemmed from our left side again and it's down to either instructions or players doing there own things. BTA always goes inside and Rudoni has to come out to the left to compensate and doesn't link that well with Dasilva. Rudi was the creative player moving out wide and creating nothing, BTA was doing nothing inside when he should have been in the area vacated by Rudoni. That alone reduces options for Grimes and makes him look worse than he is as he has no creative forward player to pass to. It's a mess at the minute, teams that press high on the flanks cut off our supply and we don't change the set up. The defence is starting to look ok but forward thinking players need to play in the correct positions, I don't mind losing but going out with out a whimper in matches really pisses me off. Lamps needs to look at a system that suits the players better there is no pattern of play. At least keep a forward up the pitch so at least one or two defenders are occupied and we can then hit the channels as an out ball as something different. PUSB

I don’t have the downer on Grimes some have this season. But going forward considering his age we need someone younger. Onyeka and Yirenkyi have slightly different qualities to Grimes. We need to find the next Ayari.

Grimes is clearly dropping deeper to get more time and space on the ball, but it leaves a huge hole in the midfield that is so easy to exploit. It also drags the entire team back with him, so we’re too deep whenever we try to break.

Other than Rudoni, we don’t have anyone who can carry the ball forward into space - it’s all triangles, but without any pace to release down the flanks when we have some space - Torp can do that, as shown last year, and I’d like to see him get at least 20 or 30 minutes, with some wingers who have pace.

Tchouna and Gboho need to come in, regardless of whatever drama there has been. The point has been made. Now give them a platform to show their arrogance isn’t misplaced…

We have one his name is Jack Rudoni, but for some reason we don't play him in that role. 😡

This guy took us to the promised land and without him we wouldn’t be here.

Yeah it’s time for a change but 100% we will need him again. I just hope he isn’t too disheartened by today and is ready to come back when needed as he can do it.

The fans gave him a standing ovation in the ground when he came on and first time I've heard his song this season (zombies version)

Great crowd reaction when he came on and gave us some shape and solidity to help see the game out. Some of the stuff on socials in the last couple of weeks has been poor and way OTT

Like everyone else he has his place in the squad and isn’t immune to be dropped. What he did the last year or so should not be forgotten as he was the missing piece in the jigsaw that got us to the promised land. But as we know there can be no sentiment in football if we want to survive/compete. Glad he got a good reception when he came on and he’ll be needed as will others during the rest of the season.
