Surely you can only beat whats in front of you! Hull we lost because we didn’t take our chances, the very few that we had! They jumped on their chance and won the game! Newcastle we were a lot more clinical infront of goal! The annoying part of the Newcastle game was the narrative that Newcastle were very poor! Why can’t it of been Coventry we’re fantastic and fully deserved the 4-1 win!!
Sadly that was often the case when we were in top flight football back in the day.

It was rarely the case that little old Coventry City played well (according to journalists and MOTD), it was more a case of our opponents were shit.

I dont buy this argument that having lots of shots and not scoring is unlucky, its poor play from the attacking players as far as I'm concerned.
Same as Monday, our finishing was clinical, Newcastles was abject, no luck involved for me, our players did their job.

What I do agree with, is if youre creating chances, even if youre fluffing your lines, then eventually you should turn that round
I said our biggest problem in the 1st 5 games was not scoring goals. We didn't score against Hull last season either and we were scoring for fun for most of it.

It was quite obvious to me we deserved the win against Newcastle. They were poor in the GK, defence and in the penalty areas. Pinnock and Thomas stopped nearly everything. It wouldn't surprise me if they end up in a relegation battle. Strong in the middle but poor everywhere else.

My main feeling from the Hull game was it would have been the gameplan they wanted to execute and they did it perfectly. We dominated the ball, but maybe made one clear chance from it.

In terms of who finishes above who, I reckon it’ll be a close run thing.
Effort only gets you so far in the Prem. I don't think it will be long before we're above them and then the gap will get bigger.

Manchester United was a brilliant win for them, but as the season continues it ends up not the massive win it seemed at the time. Their only win was in August.

Similarly Im not having any of the nonsense about Newcastle being unlucky the other night that some came out with, as far as Im concerned we very much earned the win and the scoreline.

I agree. It's a silly narrative used to placate a poor footballing side. You don't lose 4-1 due to 'hard luck', we battered them by being more clinical. They were shocking in front of goal.

The club’s recruitment of young players suggests that we’ve had one eye on what happens if we go down.

As they’re all young, there’s more chance of them sticking around for a season in the Championship - our current squad (possibly with one or two larger sales), plus parachute payments to strengthen would be a very strong squad in the Championship. If we then came back up we’d be a lot stronger than we were this summer.

I've never understood the Hull amazing start posts. They beat an abysmally bad Man U (whose only win has been against Ipswich) and us. Their only other good results were draws against Everton and Chelsea.

People were melting down because we'd had the worse start of the 3 promoted teams, (simultaneously ignoring the fact we'd had the hardest start), it was all a bit OTT after only 4 games.

And sadly a win against us by one goal by a guy they have passed onto Birmingham !!!

Any promoted side that doesn't have an eye on what happens if they don't stay up is foolish. Look at Leicester for an example.

Any player that stands out for us this season whatever happens will most probably leave. Money and ambition talks. Those who do well will be on the radar of sides in the bottom half if somehow we don't stay up. Thomas is an example of who could well be in demand if he continues in the same form.

So he’s at least 60 m in that case

Not for a defender. Cherif is a different matter if he continues though. He will only be 20. A long career ahead of him with plenty of space for improvement.

Forest paid £45m plus add-ons for Delap this summer. A 23 year old with promise. The sky would be the limit for Cherif if he continues.

There’s an element of still being able to command premium fees for young players even if you’re relegated as well. Mateus Fernandes has been relegated twice from the PL in the last 2 years and has still amassed about £130m in transfer fees in that time.

As I said while we were still a Championship club and stand by it now. Do a couple of step overs in the Prem and suddenly you're worth £50 million.

What about if you do them at the Excel centre in Canley? Asking for a friend

My biggest concern on that loss was damage to player confidence, which I have to admit they have proved me wrong on winning at both Forest and against Newcastle.

The second part is just the basic math of losing points to a rival, which is costing us in the sense that we would be above them had we won. Will have to wait until the end of the season to see how costly for our relegation survival.

We've played 6 games so far. We've lost to the top 3 and got 6 points from the other 3 games. That's not bad.

In the Prem a draw away is a decent result. You look at winning your home games. To me the more important games this month are our home games against Fulham and Sunderland. A point at Spurs is a bonus. They spent more this summer than we have spent for many, many years....if not ever.

6 points from our next 3 games would be amazing.

Hull was a clusterfuck - Brighton now thrashing CP 5-0 no Shame as well as the Arsenal and Man City - Sunderland player sent off - not sure it was a straight red and three games - would help if it was

The longer the season goes the better our 'crap' results look.

We lost 5-0 to Brighton after playing with 10 men. They then beat Arsenal 3-0. But hey, we lost 5-0 that shafted our GD.

Sunderland have a game every 3 days until we play them. I had them bottom 3 and haven't seen anything to change my mind.

The sky is blue and we're looking good.

Some teams who play a certain way are actually better away from home in the Prem these days. I think Forest only won 3 at home last season, and if the Man City performance and Forest result are anything to go by, that could be the case for us too with the 5 at the back strategy we've been using.

If we can crack it playing a different way at home as well, it could be a very decent season for us. Time will tell how consistently we can do it, but the fact that Lampard has more than one way of playing could reap its rewards for us as we build into the season...

Liam Delap is a prime example. If he is worth £45 million what is Simms worth?

It was a Professional foul so only 1 game ban.

So Forest were better at home? 🤔

Sorry, I meant only won 3 at home*

now corrected
Just checked:

  • Home Form: Forest struggled to turn the City Ground into a fortress, recording only 4 wins alongside 8 draws and 7 defeats (20 points total).
  • Away Form: They picked up more victories and overall points on their travels, finishing with 7 wins, 3 draws, and 9 losses (24 points total). [1]

That's more like it 😂

One eye on going down, one eye on unearthing talent rather rather than experienced BUPA endorsed players. One eye on giving an opportunity to the players that got us there.

Signing players, player development and squad management is not an exact science. I’m happy with the path we are on. Staying up is a big ask and gamble however you spend your money. We look okay so far and could get better.
