Doug King/Dean Austin spat (1 Viewer)

Do we know for sure what the spat was about. It seems to me everyone is guessing and assuming King thinks out summer recruitment was shit.

This seems quite a stretch.

No one knows. You got people on here making up wild speculation about how Doug feels about Flemming so don't let reality get in the way of them having a good moan.

Also, whoever decided Sheffield United’s fat little mascot would be a useful premier league signing should have a P45 already.
Most of this forum did.

I do however think we will see him start in the PL soon.

It is a stretch. Almost as big a stretch as writing off an entire squad and all the new signings after 4 games. The bit I can’t understand is why we didn’t just sign a whole new squad that was guaranteed to keep us up. It seems thats the bit we’ve missed.

Best striker - Wright
Best AM - Rudoni
Best LB - Dasilva
Best RB - MvE
Best keeper - Rushworth

So you’re starting out with over 50% of your best first XI being championship players you’re hoping will step up.

Thats before you work out if Pinnock is better than Thomas, Yirenkyi is better than Onyeka/Grimes and the new wingers are any good.

It’s not ideal is it.

Amenda?
Is Rudoni really our best AM? We don't know until we see the new signings. Same with Wright and new signings.

He could just have been ranting about the performance rather than recruitment though.

He could of, but to suggest its about recruitment isnt the stretch some are making out.

It would have been better if it had happened in private then there would be no grounds for speculation.

It could have all been about expressing anger and frustration at the performance to a fellow club leadership person. That’s hardly a spat is it!!?? Yesterday I was venting to one of my managers about how our audit had gone this year… nobody in earshot thought I was criticising their performance or ability. Get a grip people.. it’s all getting a bit daft now!!

Its not remotely the same though, I dont know who you work for but I doubt your customers spend all day on message boards and social media debating every facet of your company and its peformance which is also discussed regularly on the country's biggest terrestrial and digital TV channels.

It’s not beyond the realms of possibility that the club don’t expect to stay up this season and are looking to establish itself in the PL after a couple of promotions from the Championship.

That strategy worked brilliantly in 2001 I can see exactly why we would do it again

Well I’m not a CEO but unfortunately I do feature on multiple customers forums and chat rooms!! But that’s irrelevant…I’m not sure why 2 business leaders can’t have an exchange of frustration in a public space without a forum inventing a load of dramatic assumptions!

Tbf that absolutely wasn't planned, was a total mess. Also, relegated teams didn't have the huge advantage they do know (i don't want to hear Burnley/Leicester as they are financial cluster fucks.) Lets face it how often did we complain about how much of an advantage the parachute wankers had?
Its not without its dangers though and if you get it wrong you end up another mediocre Championship team again pretty quickly.

Because football is an obsession and people want to discuss every facet of the goings on at their club, if people weren't so invested in it then forums like this wouldnt exist.

In the summer we had people tracking planes and speculating who might be on them so to think they'd casually brush off a public spat between the owner and the sporting director is a a strangevtake for anyone who follows football.

This is something King has said along the way. Staying up is a target, but it’s medium-term project.

In my view he needs to make just as big an effort with fans during our current ‘blip’.

That’s the biggest cop out ever. If you could guarentee promotion then great but with the extra play off teams and the way Luton, Leicester and now Burnley are going that seems to be a fanciful idea

Hardly fanciful. Winning / finishing in the top 2 is the way to go. It’s 100% guaranteed. And then it’s a 1 in 6 chance at worst if you make the play-offs.

The likes of Leicester and Luton, even Huddersfield and Wigan could be cited in how bad things sometimes go.

There’s something very Burnley about our recruitment, even had OAP Kyle Walker as our ‘Pinnock’. Needless to say, look at them this season.

Statistically most of the promoted teams end up relegated; it’s being realistic about our current situation.

This seems quite a stretch.

So after a humiliating defeat, King’s stood in public on the balcony, with the head of recruitment, pointing at him and the pitch and saying ‘fucking mess’… it’s not exactly quite a stretch to assume King’s not on about the irrigation system…

Chairman and Director of Football in animated conversation after seeing team lose 5-0, when we had 10 men for half the game, gave away one really poor goal, had three quality goals scored against us and their keeper had man of match.
Nothing to see here I don’t think.

Nah Burnley were very good at yoyoing even when stinking out the Prem. They've had to offload everything this time though, I think the owner is done.

Where has that quote come from?

Oh I meant last season Burnley, not the successful yo yoers of before.

People were lauding the Pinnock signing after Man City (as well as 5ATB - that changed quick !) and think we’ve spent around 40% more than Burnley did

Hull have been more ‘Burnley like’ but annoyingly have managed to dig out some results

Hull starting so well has sent people into a bit of a tiz.
But anomalies happen, us pissing the league ahead of all the parachute teams last season was one.

All those clubs have had ownership issues. The only one with some mitigation is Luton who took the decision to spend the PL money on the new stadium rather than players etc. the other 3 have had terrible ownership in recent years.

Either we’ve got a Sporting Director who has spunked close to £150m on shite or a manager who can’t pick a team and neither are great let’s be honest. Considering how Lampard did last season I’m more inclined to believe the former but ultimately you can’t change the squad as easily as you can change the manager so he’s likely to end up carrying the can anyway. I’d be well shot of anyone involved in recruitment planning before we go down and have to build a promotion squad though. Since his first summer Austin’s record has been very underwhelming and getting worse each year.

Burnley honestly would have been fine in The Championship if they weren't forced into a fire sale. We would be too if we kept pretty much this group of players. The gap is frankly enormous.

My concern is these players coming down having been rogered all season and with zero confidence.

The odd thing is the players have been signed to be turned at a profit, but basically none are being trusted to start.

King sits on his throne eating grapes watching Lampard and Austin bare knuckle for their jobs.

Excellent. Let the games begin.
