Matchday prices/Hull tickets (1 Viewer)

Do the club email before tickets release to tell us when tickets will go on sale?

I never get any notifications?

My head tells me 10am on a Thursday I normally the time of release, as I work nights I normally forget.

Ironically, if we did that, only the top 1.5k fans would be guaranteed access to tickets which would fuel even more accusations of ‘points hoarding’ and ‘the closed shop’.

Imagine how irritated you’d be if you got to Prem, got to 1700+ points and all of a sudden you’re in a ballot with STHs from 240-1300+ points?

Without wanting to talk down our own club and fanbase, but Leeds are a much bigger club and have a genuinely national fanbase. We don’t and whilst our away following is good, it’s nowhere near that level.
If you're at 1700 you will hardly be in ballots

If away allocations were 50% balloted, like one poster mentioned that’s how Leeds did it. If it was like that, something like 1800+ would be the cut off.

Ah ok, thanks. Has that changed recently? It's been 6pm on the day of for friendlies and memberships purchases etc.
Can't really talk for friendlies or memberships because I don't have/havnt bought any. But away games have always been next day, sometimes they're on earlier or later but it's normally a day and the club say the same.

Is it general sale you mean?

Have they got rid of the silly netting in the corner and ether side of the dug outs?

That’s been gone for a while. Laughably it’s described as a Hospitality area now

I was told - don't shout at me, I can't verify this, that corporate sales for Hull are slow in certain areas. I think we might see a good number of empty seats opposite the cameras for certain games. I wonder if the club could partner with ticketing agencies to sell on generic websites to cater for the tourist market? Perhaps they are already.

To be expected if this is true, the prices are eye watering. I know people say others charge the same or similar, but we have a very large supply of corporate seating, 3 times the amount of other clubs with similar sizes grounds. United, Liverpool etc it will be fine, but Hull, Brentford and Ipswich we'll do very well to shift them. General admission i'd expect to sell out every game.

Prices for lounges are an overreach. I’d be surprised if they’re selling out for the less glamorous fixtures and expect they’ll be some sizeable price cuts later in the year. They’re a little bit hemmed in by the excessive seasonal pricing but might be able to justify it by big differentials for the Man Us and Liverpools etc.

It’s been discussed before but he got the pricing badly wrong for Club Coventry and Legends in particular, where most people are just ordinary fans who like a slightly nicer environment and could afford it. They weren’t offered Premier League packages or helped move to regular seating even though they’ve arguably put the most in to the club financially over the last few years.

For the new high price dining experiences, I wouldn’t have thought they’d be that much demand except again for the big matches where corporate clients might want to see a big team play.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see some empty seats regularly facing TV cameras - prepare for the “they can’t even sell the stadium even after all those away from PL” statements incoming.

I might be wrong of course

Hope you are wrong, but I fear the same. X will be awash with screen shots of empty seats and laughing emojis. You're right too in that they don't have much flexibility to lower prices game by game and avoid complaints from those having paid the full season price. The only way they avoid this I guess is to market outside of the fan base to overseas tourists etc.

Not sure how effective that will be for Bournemouth, Brentford, Fulham etc. Let’s see. I’m often wrong.

They can probably charge quite a lot for Man U, Liverpool etc and maybe get an average still above the seasonal price. I’d expect lots of visiting fans in the home seating for those games.

Year 1 they might get away with it. If we do survive and consolidate as a lower mid table side, it might get harder in future years.

Exactly, there probably is an element of a ‘closed shop’ for teams like Man U, Arsenal, Leeds, Newcastle and so on…

Not for us, if you’ve been going regularly since 22/23 you basically had access to 100% of fixtures. Our average away support was 1.9k in 20/21 or 21/22 iirc.
Agreed. There’s people with over 600 points more than the 1500 cut-off for the Arsenal game. Over a 3 year period that must be at least 40 more games attended, even after accounting for midweeks / cups etc. I understand there are people with special circumstances that prevented attendance and kids just getting old enough to go, but getting to 1500 points for most people was achievable

This is the issue with the pricing. We have priced out our fans of the future from working and middle class backgrounds. I appreciate Doug might be able to bank the money of Utd and Liverpool tourists etc. sitting in the home end for the glamour games but when considering the wider context, not all pounds banked are equal in the long run.

Equally, we all have life shit going on. Whenever someone brings out the life circumstances POV, I try to empathetic but in this context, what’s changed dramatically that now you can make all the Prem games? That’s what makes me sceptical.

For nearly 2 seasons of the 3 year window I was living down south and even every home was an away game.

In fact, I missed Huddersfield (a) because I stuck in stuck bad traffic, it took me 2 hours just to get to Watford and if I was lucky, I’d have just got in to the ground for the 2nd half. I did leave at 10:00 for what was supposed to be a 4 hour journey…

Agree with this. I've got no criticisms of Doug beyond a bit of short-termism on pricing.

He could have priced corporate at a level that would have seen it sell out with our own fans. He chose not to, knowing that there would be games where it would fail to sell and that when it did, it would reply on opposition fans to do it. He knows this, he's not stupid.

This may result in higher revenues, but these won't be substantial in the scheme of things and you wonder if this is a sensible long term strategy. From a reputational perspective those empty seats will receive a lot of comment and ridicule from people not aware of the context. All they'll see is a club that cannot sell out in the PL.

Maybe I'm wrong though, and we'll somehow manage to fill them, but we will need to get creative to do that I think.

Sometimes fans think if you sell it cheaper you will sell more. That maybe the case, but they often don’t work out how much more you have to sell to reach the same revenue

If we do go down and tickets became available in the rest of the stadium, I suspect he will find fewer people in Club Coventry and Legends even if the prices there drop as some of those who did renew won’t want the same experience next time round.

Absolutely. The criticism I have this year is the lack of alternative provision for people who have been season ticket holders in these areas for years and given a choice as to whether to pay £1600 or £2000 plus or miss out

That's what I was saying really. You either price it to fill it or you price it to maximise revenue.

Some may argue, in the 1st season back, that regularly filling one side of the ground with our supporters, maintaining the dynamic we've built over recent years is important.

Others may say that it's all about revenue, and if it means it becomes more sanitised and more of a neutral stand with games with lots of unsold seats, this matters more.

Point is, with prices set as high has they have been, you can't have both.

Not true, I spoke to Suzette on the phone regarding Corporate tickets in the Balcony Street Bar, the only available seats are in block A, which is right in the corner next to the North Stand in the Balcony Street Bar , the rest are all taken up with SEASON TICKETS HOLDES , and that's for the HULL game.

For Club Coventry, now that's a different matter people have probably move to the Balcony because of the costs.

No doubt there will be some empty seats for some games when people don't turn up.

But build moment and they will sell. It’s easier to reduce prices for certain games once the season is under way than suddenly increase them.

People are always saying he has got pricing wrong, but he keeps proving people wrong. Some fans still have the mindset of Dave Boddy.

That's exactly the same as what I was told, and said, that sales were slow in certain areas , so not not true 😊

Hope you're right. I'm not being massively critical here, would just like to see the place packed out, so just questioning the strategy given the reports that certain areas and lounges are struggling. Come the game, it may be that they fill and that would be brilliant.

I think we all do, especially having reached our season ticket limit. The problem with corporate they don’t always sit in their seat, football or rugby. Which can make it look like there are unsold seats when there isn’t.
