See I never bought the hype for Scholes. Was he a top class player? Yes - but as a midfielder they effectively invented the attacking midfield role for him.

Scholes was brilliant with the ball & would always be looking around before he got the ball to know which way he could go. He couldn't tackle though but he didn't have to worry too much at Man Utd with Keane and/or Butt playing alongside him.

I’m not saying he wasn’t good - as you said, was a top player going forward. Lampard and Gerrard had the same vision and could run the whole midfield
