I wasn't sure if this was worth its own thread or not so thought id tag in on to here instead.

For anybody who hasnt yet seen the film I Swear, then I strongly suggest giving it a watch. Very good film about a lad growing up.in Scotland in the 80s and 90s with tourettes and the hardships that came with it. Its a biopic of his life and where its taken him etc. Very good.

However, he was at the baftas the other night, in the audience, as his film was up for awards. He shouted n****r when 2 black actors were on stage giving an award. Something the BBC failed to beep out, and something that the black community (mostly in America being led by Jamiee Fox) are outraged about and calling him racist for saying such things (that he has zero control over). When being given an MBE by the queen he shouted "fuck the queen" at the queen

The guy is trying to highlight the disability, and help people understand, but what's happened, is hes had to apologise to people he doesnt even know, for words he didnt even mean nor can control and left the show. People really need to do better with mental disabilities. Just because somebody doesnt walk with a limp or use a wheelchair, you cant just assume theyre fine and/or putting it on

I know I'm an argumentative prick on here but some of the stuff im seeing is next level stuff. How thick are people?

There's an American girl with tourettes who documents things and she's explained it, how she can't help it and she's had to disable her account just because of the abuse she's getting.

I really under estimated just how thick Americans were. Even their media have no clue, celebrities piling on etc.

One thing though, it's seemed to have united the UK. Black, white, right, left. (Well most of them).

It's actually insane and must be so sad for people with the condition.

People are saying he must be racist to even have racist thoughts in his mind to be able to say it.

But yeah i think I seen the girl youre talking about. And she very well explained how its not your thoughts or feelings you tic. But usually what's the worst/most inappropriate thing you can say in that situation.

ie, walking through a school you'd shout "im a pedo" or airport security shouting "ive got a bomb". In the film he was stopped by old bill for shouting at them he had drugs up his jumper tell me anyone would shout that out purposefully to the old bill with enough heroine (though it was sugar) to get you a 20 year stretch

Yet he only shouted the N word because hes racist. Nothing at all to do with the fact it was the most inappropriate thing he could say and couldnt control it!

We all love comedy , but what america is doing here is mental .
They have malfunctioned over it

Basically a disabled brit is being piled on by hollywood because its easier to crush him than it is to say millionaire actors are overreacting

It's mad isn't it? They literally can't grasp that the condition means he can't help it. They also don't grasp that he's a caretaker of a local community centre.

There was a chance to make awareness for the condition massive, all it's done is set it back. It's shameful.

If it was just a bit of comedy fair enough but that mixed in with the underlying disgust/pile on (and total lack of understanding) about what happened makes it uncomfortable

Thought the film was fantastic, are we surprised that a group of room temperature IQ NPCs can't grasp the concept of the disability.

It’s the nuance isn’t it and to be fair it’s not just Americans
Some people think send and autism and adhd are just woke and it was better decades ago when we didn’t recognise and help those who need help
It’s in the balancing all things for the good of all where right is found
