Interesting he said he was in another country about to sign for a big club but Lampard convinced him to join us. Lampard looked at 25 wingers and he was always the number 1 target for us.

Yes, FL explained this very clearly in his interview. Yang and Esse are short term depth that can help immediately and were probably easier deals to get done. This lad was a long term target and was wanted by others which makes any deal harder to complete. He needs to catch up and is not ready to make an impact from day 1.

Apparently he was due to go to a Saudi/Qatari league team from what I’ve been told… bigger wages etc but wanted to test himself in England with PL chances a big pull
Transfer market can’t be trusted for correct values but I agree it’s gotta be somewhat close and we were way above.
I did read on one article they were hoping for €4.5m and we appear to have paid €5m
